‘A Draft for a Studio Textile (+)’ has finally arrived from the printer.Designed by @annbessemans and @kevinbormans , the publication marks the culmination of the research project of the same name, initiated by @luklambrecht within the MANUFrACTURE research lab at PXL-MAD School of Arts / Hasselt University.The project reflects on the renewed relevance of textile—not only as a material or technique, but as a way of thinking. Bringing together artists, curators, writers, thinkers and jazz musicians, it explores weaving as a cultural practice that connects making, reflection, improvisation and material knowledge in response to an increasingly accelerated and digital world. Like jazz, it values rhythm, dialogue, variation and openness over fixed structures, embracing process as much as outcome.Rather than serving as a neutral container for the research, the publication becomes part of it. Its visual language does not illustrate the content. It performs it. Textiel and text are approached alike: woven structures whose meaning emerges through connections rather than linear sequence. 🥳 Recently, the poster submission entitled ‘-MOVE-’, a collaborative work by Ann Bessemans and Kevin Bormans (READSEARCH), was selected for the 7th edition of the Emirates International Poster Festival (EIPF), currently running in Dubai (UAE) (November 3, 2025-December 31, 2025). As one of the leading platforms for poster design in the MENA region, the 2025 edition highlights the power of design as a bridge builder between people from different cultures, social, and geographical boundaries.Ann and Kevin’s poster asks what happens when movement or relocation becomes more than just an objective action. The design explores movement as a metaphor for change – a shift in perspectives, a bridge across borders, and a symbol of connection and belonging. Fantastico! Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer is visiting us once again for an intensive Glyphs workshop, highlighting the shaping and interpolation of letterforms and typefaces. On the 4th and 5th of December 2025, from 9.30 am until 5.30 pm at PXL-MAD School of Arts and READSEARCH in Hasselt, Belgium (Building C, room C214). This workshop is free for PXL-MAD students. On October 10, the MA Studio TYPOTYPE embarked on an excursion to Amsterdam, visiting the @stedelijkmuseum Museum and @enter___enter. During this trip, @annbessemans and @niaz.mirmobini provided students with an assignment related to their studio projects. The excursion involved MA students as well as some members of READSEARCH, including PhD students, research assistants, and interns.
