⚔️
What was broken will be remade.

Deep in the heart of the continent, Koschei the Deathless is stirring. Though he’s been bound to a mountain lake for millennia, the insidious threat of his return now spreads across the Fae territories, attracting powerful allies hell-bent on reclaiming what was once theirs: the human lands.

The Night Court will not stand idly by while innocents are attacked. But with Prythian still piecing itself together in the wake of the devastating Hybern War, the task of uniting is proving more difficult by the day.

To make matters worse, those who rule and protect the Night Court are reeling from recent betrayals and revealed truths. The rifts dividing them seem insurmountable.

But to defeat Koschei’s creeping shadow, they must find a way back to each other and resurrect their former alliances. To survive, they must find a way to repair the splintered harmony all around them.

I read anything Sarah writes, but this one didn’t capture me like her other books. Loved being in her world again but there was a lot of irritation between the characters and it was a bit annoying. Hope the next book is more plot and less whining. 🙈

🐜
Folk horror with dark secrets and skin crawling content. At times a bit murder mystery and a bit weird.
I don’t think I understand the last page. But going to discuss this with my reading buddy when she is finished with this book. 🤣😜

#sundaymorningreading

“Back then, when I was a young woman, there were still witches”: That was how Nana Alba always began the stories she told her great-granddaughter Minerva, stories that have stayed with Minerva all her life. Perhaps that’s why Minerva has become a graduate student focused on the history of horror literature and is researching the life of Beatrice Tremblay, an obscure author of macabre tales.

In the course of assembling her thesis, Minerva uncovers information that reveals that Tremblay’s most famous novel, The Vanishing, was inspired by a true story: Decades earlier, during the Great Depression, Tremblay attended the same university where Minerva is now studying and became obsessed with her beautiful and otherworldly roommate, who then disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

As Minerva descends ever deeper into Tremblay’s manuscript, she begins to sense that the malign force that stalked Tremblay and the missing girl might still walk the halls of the campus. These disturbing events also echo the stories Nana Alba told about her girlhood in 1900s Mexico, where she had a terrifying encounter with a witch.

Minerva suspects that the same shadow that darkened the lives of her great-grandmother and Beatrice Tremblay is now threatening her own in 1990s Massachusetts. An academic career can be a punishing pursuit, but it might turn outright deadly when witchcraft is involved. by @readsonemorechapter

The Honey Witch of Innisfree can never find true love. That is her curse to bear. But when a young woman who doesn’t believe in magic arrives on her island, sparks fly.

But her newfound magic and independence come with a price: No one can fall in love with the Honey Witch.

Seven years ago the Atargatis set off on a voyage to the Mariana Trench to film a mockumentary, bringing to life ancient sea creatures of legend.

It was lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a tragedy; others have called it a hoax.

Now, a new crew has been assembled to investigate. And they’ll discover that whatever is down there is definitely no joke.

I enjoyed this one, it’s a bit slow at the beginning and science heavy but when the scary mermaids attack it’s one hell of a ride. A lot of characters (people and sirens) die but it kept being interesting because we learn more about he sirens along the way and the science with the myth intertwined made it an interesting ride.

Brynn’s happy ending has gone up in flames. She’s newly divorced and living with a roommate Josh to afford her mortgage. At least she’s got Carson’s Cove to binge (her beloved 90s teenage soap).

So when a birthday cake shows up on her and Josh’s doorstep, Brynn makes a wish for her own happily-ever-after.

The next morning, she doesn’t wake up in her apartment. She’s in Carson’s Cove and Josh is there too. Except they’re not Brynn and Josh, they’re the sweetheart and the bad boy.

Will they stick to the script, or will real love change the story forever?

📺

This was some cute lighthearted fun read. A bit of magic and no complicated emotions.
