✨️Welcome Back✨️

I have been a little MIA for the past couple weeks, I needed to take some time for my well being. The crew and I enjoyed many hikes, treats, and cozy days in.💕

Welcome to Lou's Library, where we must follow the rules...or else. She prefers a quiet and cozy space, snacks and beverages are welcome, and occasional shenanigans are tolerated.

New updates to the library:

✨️Bed with shelving ~ Allows for comfy reading, more room for guests, and I've moved my priority tbr to those shelves.

✨️Artwork ~ I couldn't say no to the brave forest squirrel. Piece by @barb.schelling

✨️Slight rearrangement of books, I like to mix up my bookshelves from time to time.

In the next chapter of Lou's Library, we will try to track her down for her favorite reads. 📚 Lou takes her job as guardian of the books very seriously.

✨️26 for 2026✨️

Here are the 26 books & series I'll be prioritizing this year. I LOVE fantasy, if you can't tell 😅 but I will also be sprinkling in more sci-fi, dystopian, and horror. This does not include all the Awesome ARCs that I will hopefully pick up.

Pheebs requests more adventures with her sister Rue. So I'll be plugging into more audiobooks while we hike. 🥾🌲

✨️Three for Thursday✨️

🔹️The Broken Earth Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin🔹️

This is probably one of the most unique series I have read. From the storytelling to the genres it spans. There's a mix of sci-fi, dystopian, and fantasy. My favorite part of this series was the world building and the resilience of the characters. There are themes of grief, oppression, loss, love, and bravery. I would recommend this series to readers who enjoy epic world building, unique magic system and storytelling, and reading about heavier topics. 🌸July Hopefuls🌸

In July I'm hoping to return to a few series I have started. Series featured:

🔹️An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
🔹️The Folk of the Air by Holly Black
🔹️The Poppy Wars Trilogy by R.F. Kuang

A cozy TJ Klune in the mix because I think the Poppy Wars will likely be a heavy read and hurt my feelings lol. I am excited to read the arc of Vicious Miscreations by Jenn Neal as well.

✨️May & June Wrap Up✨️

The past couple months have been filled with outdoor adventures and many good books.

I am enjoying An Ember in the Ashes series, it's multi POV and the character arcs have been great.

Book 2's: Rites of the Starling and The Tapestry of Fate were both great! I'm looking forward to the next one!

Summerween is here! I'm adding in more thriller/horror books. My favorites so far are Home Before Dark by Riley Sager and What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher.

Some fiction and non-fiction sprinkled in.

✨️Magic Monday✨️

I read Windswept by @annabelabbs in the fall of 2022 while exploring Grand Teton National Park and it has stuck with me ever since. A couple years later, while walking past my local used bookstore, I saw this book and I knew it had to be the works of Georgia O'Keefe. She is one of the women mentioned in the book and it felt magical to recognize and to see her art come to life.

I highly recommend Windswept, especially if you love the outdoors! It's inspiring and I loved learning about the journey of other women.

☕️Sweet Confessions☕️

A Short Story Anthology

Released this past Tuesday and I have been enjoying the mix of mystery, thriller, lit fic, and romance throughout this anthology. Also, I loved that there were recipes shared throughout the book that related to the content of the stories. I used the huckleberry syrup recipe this weekend.

A huge shoutout to @readingwithmrsleaf on her debut short story! I enjoyed your short story and felt like I was transported to Bekah's coffee shop. I am so happy for you and I'm excited to see what you have coming out next! I drew inspiration from Bekah and tried making my own huckleberry latte today. 💚🎃Summerween🎃💚

Home Before Dark by Riley Sager

This is the second book I've read by @riley.sager and I'm loving it! Home Before Dark kept me guessing until the end.

In Home Before Dark, we follow Maggie, who returns to the house that has defined her life. Made famous after her father's book House of Horrors, Maggie comes to confront the truth. Is her Dad lying? Is this house haunted? Why can't she remember what happened?

I enjoyed getting the POV from Ewan(dad) in his House of Horrors book and getting Maggie's POV as she returned back to the House of Horrrors. While reading this, the dogs and I were definitely looking over our shoulders and checking out all mysterious noises lol. If you're in the mood for spooky haunted house vibes and twists, check this one out!

✨️Friday Fav's with Pheebs✨️

This week I:

Finished What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher, it was a creepy, atmospheric short story with mushrooms 🍄

Watched Remarkably Bright Creatures, I really enjoyed this adaptation. "I am home." 🧡

Started Rites of the Starling by Devney Perry. I love the multi POV in this book and I'm excited to see where it goes.

Rue has a new way of requesting ear scratches..she gives a good upside down smile 😂

We added a new fireplace to our living area and the crew and I love it.❤️

🌱📚Monthly Wrap Up📚🌱

April was a month of highs and lows, but good books all around.

My favorite book of April was Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy. She has become an auto-buy author for me, her stories carry all the emotions throughout, and I love it. Reading Run on Red by Noelle W. Ihli was crazy because there has been similar events happening in MT with a white ford truck running down women in remote areas. Please be aware of your surroundings and let your loved ones know where you are.

Indie Bookstore Day was awesome! I love my local bookstore @mtbookco! And I was so lucky to find the golden ticket this year! ❤️

The weather has been all over the place with snow and beautiful 75 degree days. The dogs, my husband, and I have been setting up the garden area. Stay tuned for garden pics to come 🌱 Rue loves to help with watering and is also looking forward to the garden season.

A little TMI and vulnerability...I worked my first 50 hour week of the "busy season" of work and I wasn't ready for it. While I know my job is important, I sometimes feel lost in the deadlines and disconnected. So I'm looking for book recs! ⬇️
