๐Ÿ“šโœ๏ธ September Book Recap โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ“š

Better share this because November will be here before I know it. ๐Ÿ˜…

September was a really a busy month for my house. Back to school, back to work, back to extra curriculars after school. I'm not reading as much right now because I've taken up knitting (I'm terrible at it ๐Ÿ˜‚) and because I started a new job (yay! ๐Ÿฅฐ) at where I was working a few months ago (double yay! ๐Ÿฅฐ). I couldn't be happier right now, but I'm also doing my best to remain present and organized. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I read a great book for my book club last month: The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett. I definitely recommend that one if you're interested in historical fiction. It's long tho. Over 600 pages! I enjoyed learning a little bit about Mississippi in the 1930s.

I have a few summer books on my TBR that I never got around to, but I might have to set them aside and dive into something a little more seasonal. ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ‘ป I'll share soon my mix bag of library holds that I picked up yesterday. You can really tell how conflicted I am right now with my reading choices lol ๐Ÿ˜†

Hope my summer peeps are enjoying this beautiful October! And hope my fall peeps are happy their favourite month/s are finally upon us. โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿงก taken in Burlington, Ontario by @readupholly

Such a great end-of-summer book. It's quirky, it's fun, it's well written. But damn, I would have loved some chapters instead of 3 parts. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I don't know why, but I'm always on the struggle bus if a book has no chapters. ๐Ÿ™ˆ taken in Burlington, Ontario by @readupholly

๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŒž August Book Recap ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ“š

I really took my reading "on the road" with me last month, in the sense that it may have been the first time all year that I read more outside than I did inside the house. The kids are finally a perfect age where we can go to a playground and I can sit by a nearby bench and read a book while they play. It doesn't always work out that way, but when it does it's glorious! โ˜บ๏ธ And because I was off with them this summer, there were A LOT of days outdoors. I loved it! ๐ŸŒž

I finished two book challenges last month. I read Endurance for my library's reading challenge (read a book based on a real person or event) and I read Catching Fire for the Scholastic The Hunger Games reading challenge. Incidentally, I'm totally behind their challenge and I am now reading the series at my own pace, but as long as I finish before the new movie comes out I can live with myself. ๐Ÿ˜

It's always so bittersweet for me when August ends. September is synonymous with change, and even though I welcome it, it's always so hard to say goodbye to another summer with my kids. They're growing up so fast. ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ˜ญ

Happy September to anyone who made this far! โœจ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŒฑ taken in Lakeside at Deerhurst by @readupholly

I need to finish this book for tomorrow! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿš€

Send coffee or tea so I don't fall asleep reading it tonight. โ˜• Not because it's boring; I'm actually really loving it and I'm DYING to see where it's going to go. It feels like Yesteryear in the way that I have absolutely no idea where it's going. I also don't know what genre it's supposed to be either, but that's what I love about it!

Peep my adorable new tote by @soygirldesigns that I picked up last week at @burlingtonvegfest. Perfect for carrying my books to ALL the playgrounds this summer (or what's left of it). ๐Ÿ“š taken in Burlington, Ontario by @readupholly

I'm deep in a rom-com kick this summer! ๐Ÿ’– It seems like I don't want to watch anything else when I'm between books, and honestly, I'm all for it. Especially when the movie has gorgeous Italian vistas, yummy food, and gorgeous leads, like You, Me & Tuscany. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿโ˜€๏ธ

This isn't a perfect film by any means, with its sometimes-stilted dialogue and predictable rom-com tropes, but honestly, after the kids have gone to bed and I just need something light and fluffy with beautiful scenery, this movie just felt right. ๐Ÿ’•

Send me your rom-com recs! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’– taken in Burlington, Ontario by @readupholly

What I thought would be a fun, quick cottage read ended up being a slow slog of a slasher. ๐Ÿซ  I wanted something a little more gripping, but I did enjoy the Scream-era nostalgia vibes. Iโ€™d still read the sequel if one comes out! ๐Ÿ”ช๐Ÿ“š taken in Burlington, Ontario by @readupholly

๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ“š July Book Recap ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŒž

I'm SUPER proud of my reads last month. I finished two books via audiobook that I started reading last year. I finished THG along with the official The Hunger Games book club (goal is to read all the books in the series before the Sunrise on the Reaping movie comes out). I read Yesteryear for my book club (we meet every other month). And, I finished Daisy Jones and the Six for my library's reading challenge (prompt: read a book with a number in the title). All in all, I feel very accomplished! ๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŽ–๏ธ

This month I'm looking to sneak in some books for fun, so I'm not just accomplishing challenges. ๐Ÿ˜…

I feel like I'm late to give this book some love, but I honestly couldn't put it down. If you love the Almost Famous movie, you will love this book! It has a unique interview format that makes for an easy, fast read. It's all 70s rock, talent, sex, and drugs. ๐ŸŽธ

This is my second Taylor Jenkins Reid book. Did you know that there is a character that shows up in all of her books? He's pretty minor, but I love that she's adding this little Easter egg to her world building. So fun!

So, I just started watching the Daisy Jones and the Six show on Prime and I'm loving it. Who's watched it? ๐Ÿ˜Ž taken in Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario by @readupholly

I have been doing a poor job of engaging in all my book related activities this summer. I haven't even been writing reviews on Goodreads and Fable (which is something I typically love to do). Oh well! Summer break lol ๐Ÿ˜… Maybe I'll get back to it, but for now I'm just enjoying the quick pick up after each read versus sitting back and reflecting. ๐Ÿ’ญ

I finished my James Cook nonfiction audiobook and had nothing lined up so I picked a book at random from my tbr on Goodreads. I'm listening to Austenland. So far I'm not loving it. The cover of the book (seen here) is so much better than the audiobook. They're so different that I thought maybe I was listening to an entirely different book. I thought the book cover made for a more serious book, which was the vibe I was going for. Oh well. Hopefully it turns around. ๐Ÿคž

Still reading Slasher Summer. This book is a lot SLOWER than I anticipated. Not My Friends slow, but slow for a thriller. When does the killing start? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ”ช

What should I read next? ๐Ÿค”

Both of these books were published in June, and both are library finds. I have a little more time to get to The Fatal Unpleasantness at Netherfield because I put a hold on a second copy at the library.

The Jane Austen fan in me is really tempted to pick up the Netherfield book because I can't resist a good spin-off or adaptation. But... I'm about to go away for a week, and Slasher Summer is just screaming summer read. โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ”ช๐Ÿ“š

I think I actually liked this one more than Heated Rivalry. ๐Ÿ˜

I picked it up because I couldn't wait for season two, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Ilya was easily my favourite part of this book. His growth felt so genuine, and I really appreciated how his depression was written. It wasn't overdone, it was just part of who he is, and I loved seeing him realize he deserved happiness outside of his relationship too.

I was definitely frustrated with Shane a few times, but that just made the payoff at the end even better.

And that ending? Exactly what I wanted. ๐Ÿฅน

โ˜€๏ธ LIBRARY HAULโ˜€๏ธ

Mostly just a stack of books that looked good to us or caught our eye at the library. โ˜บ๏ธ ๐Ÿ“š We're slowly making our way through this pile one book at a time.

I was honestly surprised that Slasher Summer didn't have any holds yet considering how new it is. I was even able to renew it! That's rare with new books. Can't wait to read it. Thanks for mentioning it @turningpaperpages.
