ARC Review ⚔️❤️‍🔥👑🔥
The Witch Queen’s Gambit by A.L. Sinclair
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Winter Solstice Gambit is the excerpt of the first three chapters of The Witch Queen’s Gambit

Reading the first three chapters of The Witch Queen’s Gambit, I was immediately mesmerized by George and Zephyr’s relationship. There’s such a palpable tenderness and longing between them, and Sinclair’s lyrical writing makes it incredibly easy to get swept into their world. I absolutely loved the blend of Tudor history, court politics, witchcraft & mythology, and forbidden romance. There’s a lot happening in these first chapters but it never felt overwhelming. It’s intriguing to read about these historical figures in a world where gods and magic are woven into England’s future.

Anne Boleyn also immediately stood out to me. She’s ambitious, fiercely protective, and determined. Even with only three chapters, there are already so many hints of larger conflicts and consequences. I look forward to reading the rest of the book!

Kiss 💋, Marry 💍, Avoid 🚫!

We got the Books Buds 📚 together for a quick collaboration on what books we might love, do love, and don't want to even be in the same room with.

Which ones are we wrong about? Which books do you agree with? And make sure to tell us which books you want to make out with, in a totally platonic way, and not in an object loving way. Unless that is your thing. No judgement.

Book Review 🪾
Avarium by Mel Torrefranca
Rating: 3.5 ⭐️

Avarium is a standalone novella set in the Belladonna Series. The premise of this story focuses on Cal Avarium who murdered a boy and is sent to an academy where 20 trainees who compete against each other until the top 5 remain.

I had expected this story to focus more on Avarium but it didn’t dive as deep into her character and background as I would’ve liked.

While the premise was definitely interesting, the pacing felt slow and the stakes didn’t feel as intense as I had expected.

Evaris, the main character, lacked depth and it didn’t feel like there was any real character growth in any of the other characters as well.

However, some aspects I did enjoy was that the writing was fairly easy to read and follow along. The worldbuilding was done very well and I wasn’t confused at all, despite not having read the previous books in this series. The pace definitely picked up at the end and the action scenes were the most engaging part of the book.

Thank you to Lost Island Press for the ebook in exchange for an honest review.
