attn all hikers! if you want to do the ~epic~ enchantments hike in washington, the time is NOW (until 3/1) to apply for backpacking permits! this hike is truly incredible. the scenery is unreal. being able to stay overnight instead of doing it as a day hike is the most special experience!

here’s some tips for the hike (save for later!)
.

👉🏻 the thru hike is about 20 miles. If you want to stay overnight (highly recommended) you need a permit. Otherwise, you can do it as a day-hike if you don’t have a permit

👉🏻 there are 5 different zones you can get backpacking permits for, but the Core Zone is the best one

👉🏻 there’s only a 2% chance of winning a permit through the lottery (but there is another way - check out my blog for more info)

👉🏻 it’s a good idea to bring gloves when hiking the infamous Aasgard Pass (2,000 ft. elevation gain in 1.5 miles) so your hands don’t get scratched up from the rocks

👉🏻 bring a swimsuit - jumping in the alpine lakes is a highlight!

👉🏻 there’s a good chance you’ll see wild mountain goats along the trail!

Only 20 people are allowed at this spot per day, and @drewbeezie and I entered the online permit lottery every month for 2 years to be one of those lucky few, with no success. We spontaneously decided to fly to Vegas and drive 3 hours to Kanab, UT to enter the walk-in lottery, and WE WON!! Not only were we lucky to get the permit, but also to be one of the very few people to see it with snow. The hike was cold and sketchy, but standing in this spot was worth all of the effort to get there. 🙌🏻

I think this is my new favorite hike in california!! The views are seriously incredible every step of the way, and you pass by a different lake every mile. You can hike it in a day, or you can get a backpacking permit to camp there overnight. Which I highly recommend, because who would want to leave this place?! It’s an easy/moderate hike so it’s great for beginners, too. Swipe to the last slide to get a feel for just how cold that lake is 😅

special little trip to one of my favorite places. I traded in my usual vibe of “how many epic hikes can I fit in to my itinerary” to instead enjoy a slower, chiller pace. Yosemite is amazing for both types of trips! I’ll share my family-friendly itinerary soon!
