I’m back from vacation and my little hiatus! Wow the book selection in Scotland did not disappoint and I made sure to take the most of my carry on space for these babies.
ALSO i secured a Charlie Chip!! All the way from Manchester (shoutout Liv for the best wedding gift) we had a fish and chip van catering for our wedding so it really was so special 🥹

St. Andrews will go down in infamy as my little sister did in fact get her cheese toastie stolen by a seagull and NO we did not buy the seagull insurance 🤦🏼‍♀️ so if you go it’s definitely worth it lol! and of course we couldn’t not stop by Janettas Gelateria 🙂‍↕️

i really could have bought seven hundred more bookmarks but had to rein it in. and the little nessie trinket PLS 😭 cockburn street is trinket heaven

edin shopping day was chaotic but so fun and i got to show the city to my husband and my bestie @atouchofshayna 🥹 we have so many new mems and inside jokes 🤍

cant wait to go back x 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 taken in BOOKSTA by @reag.reads

oops i took a month long hiatus from posting! im back!! theres nothing better than sitting outside in the sun w a bev and a book , this weather has rejuvenated me. we had jungle juice and brunch and gave the dogs pupsicles outside on the weekend (swipe to see how cute 🥹)

I MISSED U ALL. what are we reading?? what are we up to??

we are deep in wedding planning season (mostly all the legal stuff) and had to make an impromptu 14 hour drive to Montreal to get jakes visa!! I recently finished The Handmaid’s Tale and it took me a while to get through it, and not for the usual reasons. The book isn’t long and the prose isn’t challenging but it was heavy to take in… I’ll let my review speak for itself.

4.5 ⭐️

Clearly, I’m a glutton for punishment reading this in the current political climate. For a dystopian novel, there’s an unsettling sense of realism. Less like a warning about a distant future and more like a reflection of how fragile the present can be.

What sat with me most is how the story resists the comfort of a traditional heroine or a neatly resolved ending. There’s no catharsis/triumphant rebellion to soften the blow. Offred IS flawed, she’s fearful and deeply human.

This novel forces you to confront the uncomfortable truth that most people placed in her position wouldn’t become heroes. They would adapt, justify, endure, in any way they could. Offred’s perspective isn’t inspiring in the conventional sense but it’s painfully believable. A must read.
