POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Nü-Metal Heroes is streaming everywhere now.

Before I got sober, I pretty much quit writing songs, I felt like my creative muscles atrophied and the spirituality and self reflection that songwriting required weren’t very high on my priority list.

The songs on this record aren’t all about sobriety, but they wouldn’t exist without it. They also wouldn’t exist without the tireless work of @maplefortress who helped me arrange them, played on all of them, recorded them all and made the art! Derek is my creative soul mate, best friend and brother.

Album was mixed by the incredible Brian Knox and mastered by Adam McDaniel @_dropofsun_

Shooting a poorly executed vertical video of me stumbling through one of my tunes to remind you that I am playing Sunday evening @lilyssnackbar with the fun/awesome/incredible @gpd420

I was reflecting this am about how this country has basically been at war since I was 16 years old, and how it doesn’t matter if it’s fire fighters climbing through rubble or 18 year olds being shipped half way around the world to get blown up- it’s always the working class that’s dying or getting injured, or having their spirit or mind destroyed because of decisions the elite and powerful make…anyway this song is kind of about that. I mess up a couple lyrics and you can hear Lee talking about fire trucks if you make it to the end.

Anyway, come hang out Sunday. It’s an early show, Lilys has ice cream and good NA drinks. and also great food and regular beer and Grady’s songs are really good. by @real.companion

It came a big thunder storm at my house yesterday while I was messing around with the guitar after breakfast and packing lunches etc.

I was reminded of this tune, I’ve only played it out a couple times- not sure it’s meant for that? I assume everyone that makes music or art and lives in Western NC has something they’ve made about the hurricane. This is my hurricane song, mostly just a collection of images and stories I heard in the days and weeks and months following the storm when everyone would just swap what their experience was like.

Anyway, here it is, I mess up and forget the lyrics at the beginning of the last verse, that long pause is not for dramatic effect. taken in Meat Camp, North Carolina by @real.companion

Dropping into your social media feed to remind you that I am opening for Marisa Anderson @huzzahbooks next Monday.

Come listen to my simple depressing songs before being totally mystified and humbled by Marisa’s amazing music.

This is a new one about getting older, and feeling like life is hammering you into submission with the every day sameness and relentless existential dread. Unbelievable things indeed. by @real.companion

Hey. I’ve been only using this app on desktop because I doom scroll and watch too many bball highlights and shit when I should be hanging out with my kids or outside.

I am playing a solo show this Thursday @lilyssnackbar opening for the great @blu.cactus

I’ll probably play this one, sorry for the intimate camera angle. I didn’t know my phone was zoomed in, and didn’t feel like re recording.

Love y’all, come hang Thursday-it’ll be fun. taken in Meat Camp, North Carolina by @real.companion
