Used R to put together a network map of my most-streamed artists on TIDAL over the last 12 months.

I used 0.5 standard deviation below the mean as the cutoff threshold for excluding artists that were among those I listened to enough to capture stream counts on their songs. All other artists appear here.

Categorizations for some artists are a little weird simply because I didn’t listen to many other artists in their genre so I had to force them into one (I’m looking at you, Emorie Hush 😁)

How to read:
- Larger bubbles (>= 1 SD above mean) indicates that I listened to those artists more
- Bubbles closer together mean that those artists share more genres relative to other artists (so the bubbles further out are relatively more unique in my data set)
- Colors of bubbles represent 5 clusters of artists are are statistically most similar to one another relative to other artists in my data set (I listen to a lot of metal; so, if my data set included a broad swath of genres, these would likely all be one color)
- Note: the streaming data came from Tidal, but my genres classifications were manually entered based on Wikipedia pages and/or whatever else I could find online. So there’s some subjectivity there

So…if anyone was wondering how I spend my Saturday mornings, now you know 😂 by @realadhdoug

First, it was “Dug.” Then, it was “Daug.” Now, it’s “Dougg.” I weep for a generation without Dougs. We’ve truly let a good name die 😂 by @realadhdoug

Wanted to post this before I forgot…my hometown recently got a new bookstore! If you’re in or around Urbana, be sure to check out Sunshine Book Nook. They’ve got a nice range of material—definitely something for everyone. I’m attempting to learn the guitar and, when I visited, I coincidentally found a book just for that!

They’ve also got these really cool little “mystery book” packages with miscellaneous goodies tucked in with one of those old school library cards giving hints on what the book is about. Mine turned out to be something I’d never heard of, but it looks fascinating. Also, bonus points for having an incidentally gay protagonist!

Anyway, support independent bookstores 📕 !Support live music 🎸 ! And happy pride 🏳️‍🌈 ! by @realadhdoug

I never thought I’d say this, but I’m actually tired of cereal. Anyway, congrats to Cinnamon Toast Crunch on winning my inaugural Cereal Bowl tournament.

(And before you complain about seeding and regions, no, the selection committee will not be taking any questions) by @realadhdoug

Jessy and I went to our first back-to-back concerts in decades this week @hangar.1819 in Greensboro.

On Monday, we were there to see the opener @strayviewofficial, and the lead vocalist’s wife came up to sing the hook on one of their songs, which was adorable. We also saw @autumnkingsband and got a pic with their vocalist, who was incredibly patient as I tried to figure out how to take a selfie on a phone I’ve had for like 5 years, lol.

On Tuesday, we went to see one of our new favorite bands, @deadlandsband—and got a pic with their lead vocalist who has ridiculous vocal range and, I swear to god, one of the best screams of any active metal vocalist. We also really enjoyed the opener, @weareredhook, who were doing their first ever tour in the US.

You should check out all of these bands. All highly underrated. Go follow them…and you’re welcome for changing your life.

Chances of picking a perfect bracket from the Sweet 16: you and every person currently living in the city of Lexington, Massachusetts fills out a different bracket—and yours ends up being the correct one.

Chances of picking a perfect bracket from the beginning of the tournament: every other person who has ever lived on earth throughout all of human history filled out a different bracket every second of every day for 3 years during their lifetime—and yours ends up being the correct one.

Round One of the Men’s tournament is in the books.

This might be the best I’ve ever had going into the second round. Got 25/32 games right, with all of my elite eight picks still in and 14 of my sweet 16 teams still in.

Now I just need Kentucky to show up for 2 more games against much better competition. That’s not too much to ask for, right?
