Every now and then, I think about our first home.

We loved our semi. It was perfect for that stage of life and helped us build the life we have today.

After living in our detached home for many years, I’ve realized how many little things have quietly become our new normal.

1️⃣ Inviting people over.

If you know me well, I love to host and build community through gatherings.

Hosting used to take planning. Would everyone fit? Where would people park?

Now, family dinners, BBQs, bonfires, and birthdays happen without a second thought.

The biggest upgrade wasn’t the extra space.

It was how much more connected we became.

2️⃣ The quiet.

I never realized how much peace mattered until we moved.

Now I cherish quiet mornings with coffee in the backyard or working from my home office with the windows open.

3️⃣ Our backyard became another room.

The boys simply open the back door.
Soccer.
Water fights.
Camping in the backyard.

Some of our favourite family memories have happened without leaving home.

4️⃣ Storage isn’t something we think about anymore.

Bikes.
Sports equipment.
Camping gear.
Holiday decorations.

Our semi always had us asking, “Where are we going to put this?”

Now we simply have room for the life we’ve built.

5️⃣ Home became our favourite destination.

We still love travelling, but coming home is one of my favourite feelings.
Seeing the garden.
The backyard.
Neighbours waving hello.

It reminds me we’ve built more than a house.

We’ve built a HOME.

Looking back, moving to a detached home didn’t make us happier.

It simply gave us more room to enjoy the life we were already building.

Every home we’ve lived in was perfect for that season of life.
This one just happens to be the chapter we’re in now.

If your current home is starting to feel a little smaller than it used to, DM me “MOVE.”

I’ll help you figure out whether it’s time for your next chapter and build a plan that fits your family, your goals, and your timeline.

Sometimes the best next move isn’t moving tomorrow.
It’s having a plan for when the time is right. taken in Toronto, Ontario by @realimpactgroup

We almost moved north like many of our friends.
But every time we pictured our day-to-day life, we kept coming back to North York.
We realized we weren’t just choosing a house. We were choosing the lifestyle we wanted for our family.
Here are the five reasons we stayed.
1️⃣ Family comes first.
This was our biggest reason.
Being minutes from Grandpa, Grandma, uncles, and aunts means spontaneous dinners, sleepovers, weekend visits, and making memories together.
You can’t put a price on that.
2️⃣ We love being in the heart of everything.
From North York, we’re a short drive to downtown, Pearson Airport, concerts, sporting events, museums, hospitals, parks, and ravines.
We get the best of suburban living while staying connected to the city.
3️⃣ We love the diversity.
As immigrants, this means a lot to us.
Within minutes, we can enjoy Vietnamese, Persian, Korean, Japanese, Italian, Greek, Jewish, and Middle Eastern food.
Our boys are growing up surrounded by different cultures while staying connected to their Vietnamese roots.
4️⃣ We love being able to say, “Let’s just go.”
Living close to the city makes life spontaneous.
On a Friday night, we can head to BMO Field, a festival, dinner downtown, Kensington Market, a musical, or a Sunday morning run along the Lakeshore.
Those moments have become some of our favourite family memories.
5️⃣ Our life doesn’t revolve around driving.
We can walk to parks, restaurants, cafés, take the subway downtown, and meet friends without spending half the day in the car.
For us, it was never about choosing the “better” city.
It was about choosing the place that best fit our family.
That place is North York.
If you’re thinking about moving to the Toronto area but aren’t sure which neighbourhood is right for your family, I’ve got you.

I’m a mom who chose to raise my kids in Toronto, and I’m not afraid to admit that...

Toronto is not for everyone, and that’s okay.

I don’t believe you need to leave the city to give your kids a great childhood.

When we had kids, we wanted more space, a backyard, and good schools. So we moved to Newmarket (45 minutes north of Toronto).

We loved our new subdivision. Almost every family on our street had kids our kids’ age. New parks, schools, and a wonderful community.

But within a year, we moved back to Toronto.
We missed Toronto’s energy, diversity, and being close to loved ones.

Here’s why I’m glad we’re raising our boys here.

Family is close. My parents live minutes away. Last-minute dinners happen all the time. Our boys grow up with their grandparents nearby.

Diversity is everyday life. I came from Vietnam at 18. Now our boys grow up surrounded by different cultures, languages, traditions, and food.

Nature is nearby. Earl Bales Park has beautiful wooded hiking trails. We can also explore the Don Valley or Rouge National Urban Park without leaving Toronto.

Community feels personal.

We know our neighbours, have friends nearby, and love bringing people together. North York can feel like a small town.

Yes, winters get cold! But we get snowy days, spring blooms, summers by the lake, and colourful fall hikes.

There’s always something happening.

Festivals, museums, sports, beaches, restaurants. There’s always something new to explore.

If you want a slower pace, quieter surroundings, and more space for your money, then suburbs may suit you better.

But if you love multicultural neighbourhoods, incredible food, and a city full of life, Toronto might be your place.

Yes, housing is expensive and traffic can be frustrating. But a bigger house doesn’t automatically mean a better childhood.

For us, it’s about family, connection, and experiences.
If you’re thinking about moving to the Toronto area but aren’t sure which neighbourhood is right for your family, I am here for you.

At the end of summer, we went away for a week.

And before the trip was over, I found myself wanting to go home.

Not because we weren’t having fun.

But because I genuinely love the life we’ve built in Toronto.

I love travelling and exploring new places. But there’s something special about coming home to a life you don’t feel the need to escape from.

For us, home looks like this:

❤️ Living in North York, about 30 minutes from downtown Toronto, with its concerts, festivals, sporting events, and restaurants.

🍜 Having food from around the world at our doorstep. Korean one night, Japanese the next, Vietnamese on the weekend. We never run out of places to try.

🥗 Sneaking away for lunch dates at our favourite vegan restaurant.

🏖️ Being about 30 minutes from the lake and beaches, where we can walk along the waterfront or watch the sunset.

⛷️ Having a ski hill just minutes from home, right here in North York.

🥾 Driving 40 to 50 minutes to explore hiking trails and conservation areas in almost any direction.

🏊 Spending summer afternoons at our neighbours’ pool (thank you, D & S ❤️).

And some of my favourite moments are even simpler.

Last-minute dinners with my parents, catching up with friends, walking our dog, and seeing familiar faces around the neighbourhood.

None of it is extravagant. But together, these little things make everyday life feel special.

It took years, a few moves, and living in different neighbourhoods and suburbs to figure out what mattered most to our family.

Toronto isn’t perfect. No city is.

But for this chapter of our lives, I can’t imagine calling anywhere else home.

If you’re thinking of moving to Toronto, I’d love to help you find a neighbourhood where you can build a life you love, too.

If you’ve been looking for a semi-detached home downtown but don’t want to give up space, parking, or flexibility, this one is worth a look.

And the location? You’re steps from Trinity Bellwoods Park, with Ossington, Queen West, Dundas West, and Little Italy all within walking distance.

Comment “33” and I’ll send you the full listing details!

Thinking about moving to Toronto? After living here for 25 years, here’s what I’d tell you.

I moved from Vietnam at 18. Since then, I’ve lived in different Toronto neighbourhoods, moved to the suburbs, built a career, got married, raised two kids, and found my way back to North York.

Here’s what I’ve learned.

1. Don’t choose a home without choosing the lifestyle.

A beautiful house means little if you’re spending hours commuting or feeling disconnected from the things you love.

Your neighbourhood shapes your everyday life more than you realize.

2. You don’t need to live downtown to enjoy Toronto.
You can live on a quiet, tree-lined street, have a backyard, enjoy nearby parks, and still be connected to great restaurants, shopping, and city life.

3. Don’t underestimate distance.

In Toronto, 15 km doesn’t always mean 15 minutes.
Between work, school, kids’ activities, and family, location matters.

Living minutes from my parents means spontaneous family dinners are possible. I wouldn’t trade that for a bigger house farther away.

4. The suburbs aren’t automatically better for families.

We moved to Newmarket when our kids were young.

Our new subdivision was full of families with kids the same age. We made wonderful friends and loved the community.

But we missed our friends, family, and the convenience of North York.

Within a year, we moved back.

5. Building a community takes time.

When I arrived in Toronto, I barely knew anyone.

Over time, friends became family, neighbours became friends, and school communities became part of our lives.

Toronto is a big city, but it can feel small once you find your people.

6. Choose somewhere that can grow with you.
What works at 25 might not work at 35 or 45.
Think about your future routines, relationships, and priorities, not just what you need today.

If you’re thinking about moving to the Toronto area but aren’t sure which neighbourhood is right for you, I am here for you.
