POSTS STORIES REELS

For context, this was a post that I wrote and designed for the WETM 18 News social media pages. However ultimately we ended up going a different direction. That’s not to say that this was censored, it really wasn’t, I was able to put elements of this post in the captions of the one we ended up posting, but we wanted the graphic to be cleaner and less wordy. That said, I did not want this to fall into the folders of our graphics having never been posted.

9/11 is a day that hits close to home for me. My father was a firefighter for the first 20 years of my life, and I grew up in Manlius Fire Dept’s Station 1 (which has now become a Taco Bell, but I’m glad they at least saved the building). To think of my father possibly being one of the 343 that lost their lives that day, it hits very close. The sight of trucks rushing to a scene always gets me in the feels because I know those are the bravest men this world has seen. Riding their scarlet chariots into battle against the fierceness of nature.

So when you see a firefighter, thank them for the bravery they put on whenever they don their helmets. They are the ones who risk their lives to save ones they don’t even know. by @realrobfinger

THIS JUST IN!

I have officially accepted my offer of employment to become the Digital Executive Producer for WETM 18 News in Elmira, NY!

This is a huge step in my media career, and while not the first paid media job I’ve had, it’s certainly the biggest yet! I’ll be working with a fantastic team of people led by News Director Jim Turpin, and working alongside incredibly talented people like Caroline Stevens on their MyTwinTiers.com website and social media.

I’d love to thank and shout out all of the people and professors I’ve worked with in my time at both SUNY Oswego and OCC’s BMC program. I’ll never forget the amazing stories we told and content we made together. It’s all led to this. Thank you!

Twin Tiers, let’s get to work! by @realrobfinger

An Analysis of the @canadiensmtl 2025-26 Season

This is a bit different of a post for me to make, but myself as a lifelong hockey fan and player, and a diehard, unapologetic Habs fan, I had to give my two cents on how this season went and what the Habs need to do in this coming offseason and into next season. Hope you enjoy! by @realrobfinger

Award-Winning

This past Saturday I was awarded a Syracuse Press Club Professional Recognition Award for the video I made for @wtop10oswego’s Whiteout broadcast chronicling the half-century old rivalry between the Oswego State Lakers and the Plattsburgh State Cardinals. I had so much fun making the video, telling the story, and giving back to the rivalry that has meant so much to me and those around me. The banquet at the Everson was a fantastic night, and it was great to make connections with so many of CNY’s media professionals and people who have told the stories of my hometown over the past two decades. Now on to graduation! by @realrobfinger

- Spring Break in Prague -

January 1st I never thought I’d be returning to one of the first European countries I’d ever visited in Czechia. That was until my love @elena_ehrhart ‘s father offered to fly us out to Prague for spring break to see him and his wife. We had a blast doing all the obligatory touristy things and a few that were off the beaten path. Notably a Czech Extraliga Playoff game between @hcspartapraha and @rytirikladno which was the end of a fantastic 5-game series where four of the games went to overtime. A visit to the National Museum, Museum of Communism, Prague Castle, Strahov Monastery, and a bunch of other cool places was also in order, all adding up to a fantastic week in Czechia. by @realrobfinger

- 2025 in Review -

This year you could say is one of the most impactful of my life so far. I got to do some of the greatest things I have ever done not only in my media career but my life as a whole. Here are some of the highlights:

- Got together with the love of my life @elena_ehrhart
- Called back-to-back NCAA Conference Championships in the same afternoon
- Was sent by @stevelevyespn to Indiana to cover the first round of the NCAA Tournament for @oswegomhockey on @wnyo889fm
- Travelled to Southern California, Pittsburgh, and Montreal all within the span of 1 month
- Played wedding photographer for the first time
- Travelled to Boston and got to walk onto the field at Fenway Park
- Began my professional media career doing promotions for @95xsyracuse and @93qsyracuse
- Helped the longest running sports talk show in Syracuse transition from radio show to video podcast
- Created a short film that has now been submitted for several awards
- Made some great TV with @wtop10oswego
- Started as the Assistant Sports Editor for @the_oswegonian
- And made some furry friends along the way

All in all, this year was one that during which I did so many cool things with so many cool people. The time I’ve spent with friends and family has been worth every second, and I hope to carry on the good vibes into 2026. To those of you that have spent any time with me at all during the last 365 days, I thank you immensely and I hope that it’s been as good a year for you as it has for me. I wish everyone a happy new year, and all the success and wishes you could dream of in the coming year. by @realrobfinger

A Love Letter to a Rivalry

Tonight is Oswego State’s annual Whiteout Game, where the Oswego State Lakers will take on their longtime rivals the Plattsburgh State Cardinals. As someone caught in the crossfire of this rivalry, I felt like I needed to add my perspective on it.

My entire Mom’s side of the family is from Plattsburgh, grew up watching Cardinal hockey, and my cousin currently goes to Plattsburgh State. My uncle was even the color commentator for Cardinal hockey on WIRY 1340AM before it shut down. Cardinal hockey is a trait that I was born into and molded with. My first real college hockey game was a game at the Plattsburgh fieldhouse. For all intents and purposes, I should be a diehard fan of the Plattsburgh State Cardinals.

But I chose Oswego.

I chose to be a traitor of sorts. I saw the broadcasting program and how beloved the Lakers are and I knew that being a Laker was the right choice. In my first semester here I became the voice of Lakers Men’s Hockey on WNYO. I became their beat writer for The Oswegonian. I followed in the footsteps of such legends as Linda Cohn and Steve Levy, with the latter even paying for Derik Clark and I to go to Indiana to cover the first round of the NCAA Tournament. I met my wonderful girlfriend Elena here. I chose to be a Laker, and I have never once regretted that decision, no matter how many times my family may poke at me for it.

This is my love letter to the rivalry that I find deep within myself. This is my love letter to the everlasting tug of war between family and friends. This is me pouring my heart out for a rivalry that I have come to know and love so deeply. I hope you enjoy it! by @realrobfinger

- As Seen On TV -

It’s been a while since I posted here, but with all that I’ve been doing especially with @wtop10oswego I figured it was time to show off some recent broadcasts that I’ve been part of. I’ve been on everything from the Nightly News to live sports to original productions and everything in between. Here’s just a taste of what I’ve been up to since we all returned to @sunyoswego (the last two nightly news stories are fairly hard news, so viewer discretion is advised) by @realrobfinger

2024 in Pictures

One of the biggest aspects of this past year was my sudden and thorough interest in photography, mainly of the film variety. This interest was fed by my grandfather handing down to me his top-of-the-line (for 1978) Canon A-1 which he bought new that year. It’s been by my side for the greater part of this year, taking photo upon photo of the memories I’ve made, and more importantly of the people that I’ve spent it with. I’d also like to shout out Johnson Studio and Camera on Erie Boulevard for being the number one place I’ve gone to get all this film developed. They do a spectacular job, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Here’s to all the pictures that 2025 will produce!

SEMESTER IN REVIEW

I know it’s been a good few weeks since the semester ended but it feels like yesterday that finals wrapped up in Oswego. Probably the best first semester I’ve had at a new school ever. Getting to do stuff with @wnyo889fm, @wtop10oswego, and @the_oswegonian has been a blast! Shout out to all the people that made this semester one of the greatest (including the ones not pictured lol I wish I had pics of more people). Let’s have some fun this winter and get right back at it for round 2 in the spring!

Expect even more content to come in the spring, as @derik.minidoc and I go on the road with @wnyosports to broadcast @oswegomhockey away games! Christmas brought me a pretty good setup to make content with, so gotta put it to good use👍🏻 by @realrobfinger

INSTANT REACTION! OSW-PLA

This is the start of a new series that I’ll be doing over the course of the collegiate season, just after every game I’ll do an instant reaction to the game from the press box, letting you in on all my thoughts on the game itself. Enjoy! by @realrobfinger
