She loved to laugh...
Pictured is the last time my mother and I were together. Today her body will be lowered into the ground—but I thank God for the peace of knowing that her soul isn’t going down in that dirt. Her final resting place is not a casket or a cemetery. Her home is with Jesus—in heaven—not in a grave. This fact is what comforts my soul, although I will very much miss her. I’ll always remember her smile; Her loud laughter and her trademark silly sense of humor. I’ll never forget all the sacrifices she made while raising me, so that my life could be a bit easier. All who knew her will never forget her extreme kindness and unselfish nature—It’s that kind of heart that explains why people loved her so much. I will absolutely never forget how she always motivated me to succeed in life. And whenever I (or any of her kids) succeeded at something, SHE WOULD LIGHT UP. Personally, this always fueled me. I loved when she’d just beam with pride at any of my achievements; you couldn’t contain her joy and happiness. I loved seeing her happy; and I hated to see her hurting. Whenever she felt pain, I always wanted to take it away and give her peace if I could. But now, God will do that—in a much better way than I ever could. I thank God that by taking her home, He has given her everything that I always wanted her to have when she was here—health, peace, and a fulfilling, stress-free, painless life. To know that she now has all of that (and more) through eternity in heaven and the comfort of Christ, makes my heart smile. Knowing that her happiest days are ahead of her and will never end—makes me very happy. I absolutely LOVE my mother, and I know I will miss her; But I thank God for the fact that our time apart is not final! We will meet again. That’s why the pain I felt from my mother passing has been overpowered by the JOY of knowing that SHE KNEW JESUS! And because I know him too—I am guaranteed to see her smiling face again. Becoming a child of God was my mother’s greatest accomplishment, and the most important part of her legacy. It put me on the path to become who I am. I love you, Mama. I was asked about what I wanted my legacy to be as an actor. There is so much that I still want to achieve, and I believe that my BEST days as an actor (Lord’s will!) are still ahead of me—but regardless, my answer to this question will never change. No matter the project, the genre, no matter what—I just never want to dishonor Jesus with any role that I take. 🙏🏾 by @realtcstallings

Literally 7 days after this wreck, I landed my first ever film role.
…I’m grateful for the many times that the media within Hollywood (and throughout the industry as a whole) has invited me onto their platforms to share my story, allowing me to inspire others worldwide. Looking forward to even more opportunities like these as my career continues. I truly feel like I’m JUST getting started. 💪🏾🙏🏾

Many of you probably first saw me in 2011 when I made my theatrical debut—but—that was not my big break into entertainment. That opportunity actually came 7 years prior, in the summer of 2004 as a contestant on Animal Planet’s hit reality TV show, “King of the Jungle” (Season 2).

I’m 48 YEARS OLD. They are TEENAGERS. And this is the 400m dash.

The 400 is already a hard race to run, let alone in a packed stadium against 18 and 19-year-olds. But let’s talk about how I got here.

This is a big meet for high school teams and clubs, and they let masters athletes run in them (athletes over 30+). I’m in the 45-49 group—but nobody from my age group showed up to run. This often happens to me. And when it does, I end up canceling, or running alone. Neither is fun.

But I had a goal, to go sub 60. And I saw that there was one other option: Run with a high school group. I decided to go for it, and risk getting embarrassed. But on the flip side, I had nothing to lose, and figured maybe running with them could push me to sub 60. I wasn’t racing them—I was racing the clock—and using them to get the best out of myself.

Funny thing is, I didn’t embarrass myself at all. Not only did I run sub 60, I ran 58.65 and broke the meet record for my age group. And this is my first year training for the 400m.

I compete for fun and to stay fit. But, as an actor/producer in real life, my track hobby is a metaphor for this next phase of my career in entertainment. Pray, prepare, plan, and push. I will not be afraid to fail, I will not be afraid to step in new arenas or challenging situations. I do not fear my competition, no matter who they are. Ultimately, I’m only in competition with myself.

June 19, 1865…
🙏🏾 Grateful. I am still here. First, because of the Lord. But also because so many black people before me fought and sacrificed their lives for freedom. As a result, a little black boy like me—many years later—can have the freedoms necessary to grow, live, dream, learn, and pursue my God-given purpose in life—just like any other human being.
🙏🏾 I’m also grateful to be a part of a film project that is directly related to this pivotal historical period. (Shout out to the @thesaylorsbrothers… our time WILL COME, fellas. The story will be told.)

When I finally decided to pursue an acting career in ‘08, Denzel became my inspiration in terms of how to truly transform into characters that people believed. From an acting standpoint—IMHO—he’s the best to ever do it. I cracked a bit of a smile once this scene hit my timeline. I haven’t seen the movie—but the scene immediately reminded me of one of my own “gun snatch” scene. 😉Although I personally refrain from the use of strong language, everything else that Denzel does in terms of character development is the gold standard for me. by @realtcstallings
