I Feel the Sunshine -
Original poem, and music written, composed and performed by Tyson L. Taylor

This song is about overcoming oppressive toxic relationships, enabling behavior, and the addiction of helping people. It is also apparently a "don't smoke plea" 🙏🏾 to all my friends, family and singer colleagues. The song was actually written after spending a morning in a writing-jamming session with a guitariat who was not focused needed inspiration to find her writing voice (yes, I provide songwriting services). When her smoking shifted to being inside, and I was too polite to run away, knowing I had an audition in 2 days, teaching me a big lesson.

It was my fault not hers. I have been calling out "I can't breathe" around smokers for years, and now I know I can't even be near it for more than a few minutes without losing my voice for days.

Don't smoke, kids 🤗 And don't enable people to your own detriment.

We have spent so much time in body positivity that we have forgotten to maintain our bodies or to teach our children how to do so, to the point that we allow them to eat garbage, force it on them (often out of forming them in "our" image) and neglect to provide healthy alternatives, and thereby robbing them of the childhood we have, or were robbed of having.

Then, we blame lack of funds to purchase healthy options, as if a carrot, potato, or apple costs a fortune, or we genetics, which really should only ever come into play after the age 45+, unless there is some other underlying condition, namely our failure to receive knowledge that our parents, ancestors, (health) teachers, and/or coaches/trainers passed down to us. We even fail to teach them our cultural and ethnic foodway traditions, allowing them to become hooked on daily (or more frequent) fast food meals.

In other words. Our children grow to have weight issues in their youth through our own negligence, abusive gorging, an enabling (but he wants it). And we often blame them when their weight is out of control. Food is medicine, but it is also addictive, like anything else we might consume

Forming healthy eating and exercise/play habits is the right way.

This has always been one of my favorite songs, and here's a version with my favorite male singer. 🤭 And in this hot weather, it's laxidasical rhythm, and slightly acrobatic or melody, which I just couldn't help myself but to make it even more so. Enjoy the rain after this tropical heatwave.

Move Slow Part 1
We didn't get the 1st verse and chorus on video, but I wasn't really thinking about recording it. I'm glad Jaap was on it!

Following our jam rendition of Nutbush City Limits to which I added a tiny bit of sexy, grit and squeeling; the band ans audience called for "more".

Since I hadn't chosen of a second one from my too broad repertoire, I asked "what do y'all wanna do?" I was hoping they called out something I knew.

Then, the keyboard player said something I've been try to get bands to do for a few years, "something improvised?" My songwriter heart lit up, I said "yeah, I'm a songwriter playing something, I'll come up with some lyrics"

I gave a description of what I wanted, "something that moves, a bit funky, not too fast" then gestured for them to give me an intro in case they didn't hear me saying it.

And "Move Slow (Get up)" was born.

Enticin'Tyson your #firebrandfifer here ad lib jamming with @melmusicavida and @tjeerdthunnissen, a couple of the musicians from the @moanzy_music jam at @kaap_amsterdam this past Sunday just back from Paris. Sometimes, I gotta put the trombone away and give my fife skills a go.

Actually, these guys were banging on the percussion and got me in the mood, but the trombone was packed up already.

I know I have a vocal peculiarity. It's a good one to have though, because I use it to my advantage. It's a lilt/weap/warble/vibrato & comes from intentionally tilting the cartilage, under supporting & USUALLY from doing EXACTLY what a singer should do. If your vibrato is natural and you try to get rid of it, you may be ruining your voice. DON'T!

I used to be told, "there's no vibrato in jazz" - LIES - Go listen to Ella & Billie. Others told/tell me I sound(ed "too black" or "too classical". The too classical one is risible. Black people are being barred from music created by the African Diaspora, because 1+ REALLY FAMOUS Black people in the genre sang without it on 1 or 2 of their most famous songs, or white straight/flat note singers who couldn't sing opera because they have no vibrato or standout voice hijacked Black genres & started barring Black singers and/or shout singing trying to imitate/emulate "Black" singing styles. This is why Black Americans keep reinventing our music, both to create something that is culturally ours and to stay ahead of the whitewashing, biting and snatching of our innovations, & swag.

Beyoncé gets called "demonic", haters got mad at Mariah for daring to say she is black, after they realized it. Until then they said "she thinks she's black." Giving that as a reason to stop listening to her saying she stopped making music for white people.

Aside from training, instumental lessons, plays, musicals, acting classes & of course my university degrees, I did only one boyband audition in 1998 singing Fiona Apple's "First Taste", which was apparently not Black enough 🤔🙃😅
I've always been a classical, opera, musical theater, baroque, gospel, blues, jazz, country and rock person. My family is from the Gullah-Geechee Corridor, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, and of course Mississippi. I'm connected to music history in the US. JB, MJ, Prince...
I sing jazz, blues, soul, and opera, and I mix them. That's what makes me me. It's time to retake my path which I left to study. I'm not letting anyone or anything stop me or tell me what I can't sing.

Hiyeeeeee. It's Enticin'Tyson your @firebrandchef here. Okay, I've been busy doing anything but Cheffing lately Namely singing ans acting.

Are y'all ready for our spectacular show? The AMSGMC is bringing you something extra this summer on the 4th of July. Come to think of it is wrote a special song, back in 2020 which started as a poem, then added a fife melody to it as the FirebrandFifer here and on TikTok, which triggered my return to the realm of theater.
