**India is buying more watches. But are we learning enough about them?** For years, watch conversations have largely revolved around brands, prices and ownership. But horology goes far beyond the name on a dial. The arrival of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) Watch Essentials programme in Mumbai, through The Hour Markers, is an encouraging step for watch education in India. Understanding movements, craftsmanship and watchmaking history helps build a more informed community. But there's another conversation we need to have: **Who will service, repair and restore these watches in the years ahead?** India doesn't just need more watch brands. It needs deeper horological knowledge and stronger watchmaking skills. **A growing watch market deserves a growing watch culture.** What do you think India should prioritise next? #RealWatchTalk #WatchEducation #Horology #FHH #IndianWatchCommunity #Watchmaking #TheHourMarkers #indianwatchbrands by @realwatchtalk
Smartwatches weren’t the beginning of smart watches. ⌚ Long before Apple Watches and modern wearables, watchmakers were already experimenting with some crazy ideas. 📺 A television on your wrist. 🎙️ A watch that could record your voice. 💻 A wrist computer with an external keyboard. 📡 A watch that controlled your television. 💡 A watch that received data through flashes of light from a computer screen. 📷 And yes, even a digital camera on your wrist! All of this happened between 1982 and 2000. Some were groundbreaking. Some were impractical. And some were simply decades ahead of their time. But that’s what makes watchmaking history so fascinating. Not every innovation survives, but every experiment has a story. Now here’s a question: If you could bring back ONE of these six watches, which would you choose? Tell me in the comments. 👇 And share this with someone who remembers the pre-smartphone era! #RealWatchTalk #WatchHistory #VintageWatches #RetroTech #WatchCollectors by @realwatchtalk
Who will fix your watch 10 years from now? ⌚🇮🇳 India’s watch industry is growing, with new microbrands and collectors emerging. But are we investing enough in skilled watchmakers, spare parts and reliable after-sales service? A mechanical watch can last generations, but only if someone can maintain it. Selling a watch builds a business. Supporting it for decades builds a reputation. What do Indian watchmakers, collectors and brand owners think? #IndianWatchmaking #WatchIndustry #IndianMicrobrands #WatchCollectors #RealWatchTalk by @realwatchtalk
India’s watch market is booming. But is Indian watchmaking keeping up? 🇮🇳⌚ From HMT watches selling out in hours to growing Swiss watch sales in India, the country’s watch industry is witnessing a remarkable shift. Global brands like Tissot, TAG Heuer and Franck Muller are paying closer attention to India, while homegrown names like Bangalore Watch Company, Jaipur Watch Company and Delhi Watch Company are building their own communities. But there’s a bigger question. Are Indian watch brands building better watches, or simply better stories? Original design, case finishing, movement selection, quality control and after-sales service will ultimately determine how far Indian watchmaking can go. Because becoming a major watch-buying market and becoming a respected watchmaking nation are two different achievements. Do you think Indian watchmaking is finally coming of age? Or do we still have a long way to go? 👇 #IndianWatchIndustry #IndianWatchBrands #HMTWatches #WatchCollecting #RealWatchTalk by @realwatchtalk
I think I have a Seiko problem. 😅⌚ Every time I think I’m done exploring Seiko, another interesting piece comes along. Vintage Seiko 5s, high-beat Lord Marvels, King Seiko, the beautifully understated Dolce, Credor and Grand Seiko. And don’t even get me started on HAQ again! For me, collecting isn’t just about specifications or prices. It’s about how a watch feels, the stories behind it and the joy of putting it on your wrist. A little look into the Seiko side of our family’s watch collection. ❤️ Which Seiko would you never sell? #SeikoWatches #VintageSeiko #JapaneseWatchmaking #WatchCollection #RealWatchTalk by @realwatchtalk
Watches built for ridiculously specific jobs. ⌚ We usually expect a watch to tell the time. Maybe track a second timezone, run a chronograph or show the date. But watchmakers have gone much, much further. ☢️ A watch that detects radiation. 🅿️ One designed to keep track of your parking meter. ☕ A chronograph made with espresso timing in mind. 🌡️ A mechanical watch with a thermometer. ⛰️ A mechanical barometer and altimeter on your wrist. 🌊 And a dive watch that mechanically measures depth. Some are genuinely useful. Some are incredible feats of engineering. And some exist simply because… someone figured out they could do it. Suddenly, a moonphase seems normal. 😂 Which one would you actually wear? Save this one for the next time someone says watches only tell time. No hype. Just Real Watch Talk. #WatchCollector #WatchHistory #MechanicalWatches #WatchNerd #RealWatchTalk by @realwatchtalk
Before apps, GPS, digital heart-rate monitors and smartwatches… there was a watch for almost everything. From the Tissot Ref. 6220 tracking telephone billing intervals, to the Longines Pulsometer helping doctors read heart rate, the Breitling Navitimer acting as a pilot’s flight computer, the Longines Lindbergh Hour Angle assisting navigation, and the Aquastar Regate counting down yacht-race starts — watches were once genuine tools, not just accessories. And then there’s Seiko… A concept watch designed to help you boil the perfect egg. Because apparently breakfast needed horology too. Mechanical watches have solved some surprisingly specific problems over the years — and that’s exactly what makes watch history so fascinating. Which one would you actually wear today? Save this for your next watch-history rabbit hole and share it with someone who thinks watches only tell time. #RealWatchTalk #WatchHistory #Horology #vintagewatches by @realwatchtalk
Some watches were never meant to follow the rules. ⌚🔥 Who decided a watch had to be round, symmetrical, or even look like a watch? Throughout history, a few watchmakers have dared to challenge conventional design. Some creations looked bizarre, others seemed almost impossible to wear, yet they went on to earn their own place in horology. From unconventional case shapes to mechanical engineering that defies expectations, these six watches prove that sometimes, breaking the rules creates something extraordinary. Swipe through six watches that shouldn’t have worked… but did! 👉 Which one would you actually wear? And which one is just too crazy for your taste? 👀 #WatchHistory #Horology #WatchDesign #WatchCollectors #RealWatchTalk Some watches were never meant to follow the rules. ⌚🔥 Who decided a watch had to be round, symmetrical, or even look like a watch? Quartz watches are “cheap” and “soulless”... right? Not quite. If quartz was only for cheap watches, why did Rolex build the Oysterquartz? Why did Grand Seiko create the legendary 9F movement? Why did Citizen spend years developing the Caliber 0100? The truth is simple: Quartz is a technology—not a measure of quality. Some of the world’s finest watches are quartz, engineered for incredible accuracy, durability, and craftsmanship. It’s time to stop asking: “Is it quartz?” Start asking: “Is it a good watch?” 👇 Which premium quartz watch would you add to this list? Why is this old Seiko so expensive? Most people see an old watch. Collectors see one of the watches that helped Japan challenge Switzerland. This is my King Seiko Hi-Beat 5625-7020 — a watch from an era when Seiko was competing internally with Grand Seiko to build the most accurate watches in Japan. Vintage. Hi-Beat. Historically important. That’s why collectors still chase them today. Would you buy a vintage King Seiko over a modern Swiss watch? #KingSeiko #VintageSeiko #SeikoCollector #JapaneseWatches #WatchCollector HiBeat WatchCommunity VintageWatch Seiko5625 RealWatchTalk by @realwatchtalk
Not the most expensive Casios I own. Not the rarest either. Just the five that keep finding their way back onto my wrist.
