⋆⭒˚.⋆ Sunrise On The Reaping Statue ⋆｡° 🏹 ✩

I cannot explain how excited I was when I found out the Sunrise on the Reaping statue was stopping at Odeon in Birmingham! I did get to see it briefly before watching The Hunger Games on Stage. This time around I had more time to admire it's beauty! 🤩

I have been a fan since a teenager, reading the books before the films, and the series has been a favourite since then! This was my favourite book of last year and ever since I have been counting down to seeing this adaptation on the big screen - even though I know I am not emotionally ready to see some of those scenes 😭

⋆༺𓆩⚜The Thief and the Traitor Bride Review 🗡𓆪༻⋆

SPOILER FREE!!

4.25⭐️

Nore, a wine merchant to many but a secret spy of the Lindle crown to few, has been tasked to infiltrate enemy lands to find a powerful relic. To succeed, she is forced to work with a great thief, Caspian. Unfortunately, Caspian also shares a disastrous past with Nore. If they are to complete this assignment successfully, they must work together. ⚔️

The Thief and the Traitor Bride is book two in The Hand and the Heart series following The Second Death of Locke. It is an interconnected stand alone containing a fully story following different characters. You could easily read this book on it's own. However, why would you want to when TSDOL is also amazing?!?! I would also argue that reading TSDOL first will enhance your experience reading this 👀

This book satisfied my craving for a medieval-style fantasy! Bovalino is an expert at creating a tense plot in magical world with beautiful romantic yearning. The atmopshere projected from the pages, situating me right there with the characters! TTATTB expanded and enriched the world and magic system laid out in TSDOL. It is written so well, intricately weaving the complexities of the magic system between the pacing of the mission and balancing the romance and character development. The plot was excellently crafted with threads coming together by the end after so many heart-stopping instances! There were so many tiny details and exciting moments! 🗡

Nore and Caspian really stole the show! They were instantly loveable - while not always morally correct, I could not help but fall in love with them! It was also an absolute dream to be reunited with my favourite characters from TSDOL - the ending 🥹❤️‍🩹

Personally, this one did not emotionally destroy me as much as TSDOL. Though, a tear was still shed 😅 As much as I love it when a book emotionally kills me, TTATTB healed something in me that was damaged and lingering from TSDOL. I honestly just love this world and everything within it! 🫶

For fantasy fans who love a high stakes plot alongside tense romance between strong characters! I could not recommend these books more! ✨️

Thank you so so by @reareviews

✧˖°. Hey, introducing me! ⋆˙⟡

I've been gone the month of May, so thought that I would reintroduce myself before I get back into my reviews! 💚

I turned 30 in May 💃
The first and last photographs were taken on Rea eve at The Spicy Librarian, which is my first recommendation in my 30s as one of the coolest Bookshops 🖤

I am sharing my current interests and some of my favourites from each decade so far⭐️
I hope that maybe in 10 years or so I can look back on this post (if Instagram is still alive) and see the difference a decade makes! Though, I think editing this might have taken a decade off me (editing is not my strong point) 🫠😅

I also nervously proof read those pages about 50 times, despite having a degree I cannot spell at all so if you do see any typos or spelling mistakes please pretend that you don't 🫣

. ..𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ☾ The Shepherd King Duology 🀧🕯་༘࿐

I first read these as audiobooks a couple of years ago and loved them! I did find that listening to them required a lot of focus, I likely have missed some details so I am keen on doing a physical reread! When I saw that @rmgillig was coming on a UK tour for The Knave and the Moon I instantly knew I wanted to purchase One Dark Window and Two Twisted Crowns as I could potentially get them signed! I opted for these stunning editions!

༄˖°.👻･₊ All Hallows Eve Review ⊹⋆°🕯️🎃

HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY GHOULS!!!!! 🧟‍♀️

SPOILER FREE!!

All stories between 3-4⭐️

ITS FREAKIN BATS, I LOVE HALLOWEEN 🦇

A creepy anthology of spooky stories exploring the roots of Halloween. 💀

As September triggers the shift from Summerween into Halloween, this frightful collection crept right up my TBR. I had a lot of chilling fun and definitely feel ready for Halloween now! It is edited well with a horrifying selection covering a lot of ghoulish traditions, myths, and legends. All stories were decently scary. However, some were more haunting than others. 🕸

My favourite scares were Treats by Clay McLeod Chapman, Saturday by Chịkọdịlị Emelụmadụ, and On the Night of the Welcome Stranger by Nathan Ballingurd. I geuinely loved these stories! Their twisted tales have enticed me to go searching for their other work, which I look forward to devouring. 🏚

I recommend to all Halloween, horror, and short story fans 🖤

Thank you @titanbooks for this beautiful copy! ✨️

ִ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾ August Wrap-Up 𖤓 ⋆⁺₊⋆
August was a great and busy month, once again! It started with a family baptism, and an eclipse, to mine and my boyfriend's anniversary, to spending time out and home with family and friends, then a baby shower, to the Earthbound tour, and ending with being blown away by Leslie Odom Jr reprising his role of Burr in Hamilton in the Westend (wow!?!? will I ever get over hearing Wait for It live?)! I feel like, despite being busy, I consumed some great books and films! Freddie also visited multiple times, though they have not been back since the storms 🐸😭

August top picks:

📚 The Thief and the Traitor Bride - V. L. Bovalino
I just really really really love this world! I would read anything she writes set here. To save rambling here, you can find my full spoiler free review on my grid. 💚
I will also shout out The Shards by Bret Easton Ellis which was the perfect summerween book! As an Ellis fan, I really enjoyed this one. I hope to find the time to watch the series adaptation soon and will post a review and comparison when done so 🔪

🎞 Eternity - David Freyne
I really enjoyed this! I think it was a fun and unqiue spin on the typical Rom-Com, so it was nice to view something different! It had all of the best Rom-Com tropes and elements but uses them in it's own way. It made me laugh and cry! Just a fun time and an easy watch! ❤️‍🩹
Shoutout to The Invite dir. Olivia Wilde which was excellently crafted with beautiful shots and sharp tension!👏

📺 A Small Light - Tony Phelan and Joan Rater.
I am not exaggerating when I say that this is one of the best series that I have ever watched! The acting was incredible! It was perfectly paced by balancing providing enough time for the audience to create relations to the characters and creating a suspenseful atmopshere that each episode packed a punch, really highlighting the atrocities of war. My eyes and heart ached for so long after. An important watch! And one I cannot help but relate to the world today...

࿔‧ ֶָ֢˚˖Earthbound Tour~𐦍˖˚ֶָ֢ ‧࿔

Last week I attended @saaraelarifi 's book tour for Earthbound, the latest and final installment in The Faebound Trilogy. ✨️

I always love hearing @saaraelarifi talk - she brings so much fun everytime! The event was excellently chaired by Kate Dylan, who I am yet to read but adding to my tbr after seeing her chair a couple of times! It was a great evening and a lovely way to celebrate the end of the series. 👏 After really enjoying the first two books, I am eager to see how the series comes together in Earthbound. However, I am not sure that I am emotionally ready for it yet! 🫠

The beautiful covers and spredges deserve a shoutout too 💙

It was super exciting to hear about Sinnerman again! @harpervoyager_uk @saaraelarifi if at any point you have a spare knocking about you know where I am, I promise to review 😜🐑

Thank you all to the teams that put on these events!⭐️

ִֶָ. ..𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ July Wrap-up🏴་༘࿐

July was a fun and busy month! It began with a family camping trip, to seeing The Rocky Horror live for the first time, and finally seeing one of my favourite albums in full live (I have never been the same since! + MCR must have known I was in the crowd as we got double vampires!), to ending with some family birthdays! Honestly, a bit slacking on the story consumptions but a great month regardless. I also had a little visitor - a frog in my frog 🐸

My favourites:

📚 Crying in H Mart - Michelle Zauner
I loved every second I spent with this book! Of course it had me crying! I just really liked the writing style and thoughts it presented. I would definitely recommend to literally everyone! ❤️‍🩹

🎞 The Sheep Dectecives - Kyle Balda
This film destroyed me 😭 it literally has everything you could want in a film, tears, laughs, puns, famous actors, love, found family, silliness, seriousness, grief, twists, and probably everything else! I have been begging everyone I know to watch it - if you are reading this, you should watch it! I did not know it was based off a book until after I watched it, I have been contemplating reading it ever since 🐑

📺 Ted S2 - Seth MacFarlane
Not the best thing that I have ever watched, but, to be honest, the only series that I managed to watch in July. There were some decent funny episodes and some bad episodes. There is a fantasy / D&D inspired episode which I found fun. I guess you know what to expect based off the title and name attached! 🧸

⊹ ࣪ ﹏𓊝﹏The Odyssey﹏🏹⊹ ࣪ ˖

SPOILERS WHEN YOU SWIPE!!!

Both 4⭐️

I first read The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fagles, over 10 years ago for university. Whislt I cannot remember everything from that long ago, I distinctly remember discussing the female representation. As a female reader, this is important to me. I was very excited when I heard that there was going to be a female translation published. Finding out Christopher Nolan was directing a film version and using this translation got me even more excited. I decided to save my reread close to the film release to have it fresh in my head. 🏹

Overall, I really enjoyed both Emily Wilson's translation and Christopher Nolan's adaptation and would recommend them both. Though I hear she is not a fan, I am yet to read Emily Wilson's reviews on the adaptation, as I did not want it to cloud my initial judgment. I think this is a difficult adaptation to formulate opinions on as I am open to adaptations being different to the original text, as it is an adaptation and not a replication. However, I do think for it to be an adaptation it should keep the core meaning or essence and I can see how Nolan has slightly adjusted that to suit a modern blockbuster audience. Despite his changes, the film works really well for a spectacular cinema experience and I could not help but really enjoy it! 🍿

Let me know if you have watched Nolan's The Odyssey and your thoughts 👀

#TheOydessy #bookstagram #filmstagram #bookadaptation #Greekmythology

Emily Wilson's translation is very accessible and easy to follow. It is well written and has a map, an extensive glossary, and a summary of each book at the end to help you follow the story. I was immediately immersed into the narrative really enjoying the epic tale with the women being painted in a better light, opposed to the previous translations feeding into the degrading language. 👸

Personally, I am unsure if the imabic pentameter worked well for me. I really love that she has modernised the style and language in this edition as it makes it more accessible to today's reader. However, as much as I adore poetry and meter, I found that if I thought about the imabic pentameter I wa by @reareviews
