Rebecca Brodskis (b. 1988 in France) lives and works in Paris. She spent most of her childhood travelling and living between France and Morocco. Brodskis studied painting at the Ateliers des Beaux Arts de la Ville de Paris and at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London, graduating in 2010. In 2015, she also completed a Master’s degree in Sociology, focusing her research on the themes of vulnerabilities and social crisis. Exploring the borders of the sensible world, Brodskis’ work evolves between conscious and unconscious spaces, leading to a reflection on the existence, the self and the otherness. The idea of being in an in-between is very prominent in Brodskis work, this intermediate space at the cross-roads of empirical reality and imagination, order and disorder, materialism and spirituality, determinism and freedom.@rebecca_brodskis_painter @women_in_art__ @womeninartprize__ #womeninart by @rebecca_brodskis_painter

Swiss Mermaid Born in Congo is a multidisciplinary performance that explores the spiritual and political power of the mermaid figure as a defender of women’s rights and ecology. Created with the participation of the audience, the work stages the rebirth of a Swiss mermaid, embodied by performer Nina Berclaz, first presented in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, in 2022.Born in a polluted canal in Kinshasa, the mermaid becomes a catalyst for reflection on major contemporary imbalances: the degradation of ecosystems, as well as racial and gender inequalities. The performance resonates as a poetic and political cry, calling for collective responsibility in the face of these ecological and human emergencies.Caught between monster and object of desire, the mermaid symbolizes both otherness and projection. Drawing on diverse mythologies and intersecting imaginaries, Swiss Mermaid Born in Congo questions notions of intellectual and cultural ownership while engaging with popular beliefs and collective narratives.Swiss Mermaid Born in Congo thus proposes a transformative figure whose presence invites audiences to rethink their relationship to the environment, social justice, and shared cultural heritage.#contemporaryart #performance #marseille by @rebecca_brodskis_painter

This 2026/27 season at the Staatsoper Stuttgart is accompanied by the expressive paintings of the French-Moroccan artist Rebecca Brodskis (@rebecca_brodskis_painter), whose work focuses on the depiction of human figures in clear, powerful lines. Born in France in 1988, Brodskis currently lives and works in Paris. Her childhood was marked by movement, with frequent changes of location between France and Morocco – perhaps the first of those in-between spaces that continue to permeate her work. I was 18 the first time I arrived in Berlin. Pass This On by The Knife was playing in my headphones, and before I even understood the city, I knew I wanted to live there. From 2010 to 2015, Berlin became home, and those years changed everything for me. This new body of work, that will be presented during Berlin Art Week at König Gallery is dedicated to that time, that freedom, that feeling and all the incredible souls that made and are making Berlin such a special place This is a detail from Pass This On, my ode to Berlin.@koeniggalerie @berlinartweek #passthison #berlin #contemporaryart by @rebecca_brodskis_painter
