🪷 Oh hello. I’ve met new people lately when working festivals and concerts, but it was too loud to actually talk. So here’s me. I’d like to know you too.

🪷 Traveled to 25 countries for photo work. Favorite: Mexico. Specifically Merida. There’s a certain kind of magic there.

🪷 I work three jobs because living in Southern California demands it. But I’ll be a photographer here for as long as I can. It’s the one profession that gives me zen in the midst of chaos. In addition to photographing music, I teach photography workshops, both privately and through the DA’s juvenile diversion program/NCRC.

🪷 Single parent, completely single for seven years, pouring into myself, my kids, my passions and the slow work of healing. Releasing baggage is where it’s at.

🪷 Sober three years. Gave up alcohol for my health, got a lot more than that back. Regressed trauma and grief doesn’t magically disappear! But letting go of shit is the real anti-aging secret .

🪷 I have completed an IronMan, run multiple marathons, hiked the highest mountains, raced bikes, skied crazy ass terrain, zip lined through jungles, swam precarious waters and have been fearless in my adventures… But Yoga is where it’s at for me. Yoga heals.

🪷 I live rural, polar opposite from my work life. Far enough away my neighbors wouldn’t hear me scream, which is why I have five XL dogs, and I’m a good shot.

🪷 Will work for dog food! I take high risk/euthanasia listed dogs out of kill shelters. With a little help from friends, I rehab, train, rehome. 50+ animals since 2020.

🪷 Dream list of musicians to photograph:
Alabama Shakes/Brittany Howard, Gregory Alan Isakov, Paul Simon, David Byrne, and Steve Earle.

Thanks to the Omega crew, I photographed Steve Earle and had a long conversation about NYC, single parenting and pushing past exhaustion to take care of your people. (Listen to: Transcendental Blues)

🪷 Turned 48 last week. Aged like a fine cheese: different than what I expected, delightful to some, a bit off to others. And that’s ok.

Yesss, I already shared a set of their photos, but Pepper deserves another moment.

Hands down my favorite set of the entire fest. They heaved the energy, ignited the crowd, rushed the sound … everything just clicked. BayFest wouldn’t have hit the same without them, and these frames still carry that charge.

Also, they’re just about the coolest guys, because they continually give back and uplift the next gen more than most bands who’ve made it.

See them and a few other “kinda familiar” musicians at @theharpoceanbeach this Sunday as they raise funds for Jamaica hurricane victims. 😉 🖤 by @rebeccakuritz

💥CONCERTS > HS Dances 🙌🏽

Rock the Hill at Mission Vista High School. Another one for the books. 🎸

I shot a collection of teen bands last night and was floored by the talent. As a long music photog, and also a high school educator, I wish every school had the guts to do this. Great cause. Top shelf production. Legends in the making.

Mission Vista is breeding real rock stars. Not a stretch.

Daniel and every kid who poured their sweat into that stage: thank you. It was an honor to shoot you all. Edits are underway, and even with a heavy week heading into media direction for Bay Fest, I’m hunkering down to get these done for every one of you.

And to my daughter Marin. First night with her new camera, a little scared, and she went in anyway. She framed her shots, worked her angles, slipped through the crowd, flipped her hat backwards to get her eye to the viewfinder, and stayed a step ahead. Then she crashed on the drive home like a true gig photographer.

Third generation behind the lens. My dad, me, and now her. Couldn’t be prouder. 📸

Here’s to the next generation.

Individual band edits to come!

☀️ The Drew Brees Celebrity Pickleball Tournament at the Barnes Tennis Center was summer bottled up in one perfect (though HOT) day. Big swings, bigger laughs, a little friendly trash talk and plenty of sweaty tees.

The bites kept rolling out all afternoon, and pickles found their way into a surprising number of them. My favorite by a mile: the pickle lumpia. Crispy, tangy and gone way too fast. 🥒

Best part: every rally served up something real for the Feeding San Diego. Fun in the sun for a damn good cause.

Huge thanks to the Del Mar Food & Wine Festival for hosting yet another knockout event. So grateful to be the one photographing it all. Can’t wait for next year! 🎾

Music is usually my world, but food just stole my heart.

The Riojas Dinner at Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa, on behalf of the Del Mar Food & Wine Festival, was pure indulgence. Every taste a love letter, every pour a slow, golden moment. And a true swoon with the incomparable Claudia Sandoval (seeing her stopped me in my tracks! She’s divine.)

Del Mar Food & Fine Festival, you won me over with nearly a week of breathtakingly delicious events and remarkable people going above and beyond for every guest.

Even in the midst of the hottest week our city has experienced this year, you made everything cool, smooth and sumptuous.

Capturing for your guests and chefs was a gift, and I’d do backflips to do it again.

And…oh my god, that cake! @extraordinary_desserts 😚 you absolutely - well - took the cake.

Until 2027. ✨

📣📣📣 TWO WEEKS OUT, BAYFEST. TWO. WEEKS.

Quick shoutout before the wild wonder begins: there is a whole crew of humans who’ve spent almost a year making sure your weekend feels effortless. The schedules, the logistics, the midnight “wait, what if we moved the stage” texts. The unglamorous stuff nobody posts about.

From the top of this operation to the very last detail, this team has been locked in, polishing every piece so all you have to do is show up and have fun.

That’s the job. Make it look easy. Make it feel like magic…so you show up and get right into the flow.

Here’s to the people building your favorite weekend of the year, one tiny detail at a time.

Can’t wait to see familiar faces and brand new ones. San Diego, we’re almost there 🌴 taken in Mariners Point, Mission Bay by @rebeccakuritz

I grew up in a music family. My dad was a songwriter and producer, and industry people were always in and out of the house. I had no idea I was sitting next to some talented and well known people. They were just Dad’s friends… the uncle (who wasn’t actually my uncle, but always referred to him as so). The ones who propped me up on their lap and taught me my first chords on the keys.

We had a grand piano, guitars, and dilapidated instruments in every state of disrepair. Dad could only play a few chords, but he was brilliant at bringing music together, shaping it on paper, and photographing it. But. Honestly. He couldn’t play for shit. It was “Heart and Soul” over and over, and it always turned into something else, but it always started there. He never held back from expressing himself, as goofy and off key as he was.

I can still see the lattice he built on the walls, hung with plants and instruments. I can still smell the stale cigarette smoke and feel the lumpy barber carpet. And I can see myself ponied up to the bar in the corner of the living room, sipping lemonade with an umbrella while everybody smoked and tossed back scotch on the rocks. Normalizing alcohol, which was the seed to later issues….I digress…

Music has shaped my life ever since: the heartache, the glory, the dry spells, the in between. These days I skip songs that bring back grief. I don’t have time to slow down and cry. I have musicians to photograph, rescue critters to feed, and my last little one at home, who just this morning was blasting “September” out of the car window in traffic today. She has the same goofy guitar playing dance, too.

Life goes by so fast, my friends… One minute you’re a skinny, pale girl with a terrible haircut playing a beat up nylon string guitar in a smoky living room. The next, you’re editing photographs from that same era, wondering how to slow time a little. taken in Tierrasanta by @rebeccakuritz

WAR! Lonnie Jordan, the remaining original member of WAR, took us on a ride Friday night. We…took a litter trip…took a little trip…😎

Many memories were conjured amongst the sold out crowd throughout the set.

Lonnie shared a few stories from the wild days, the mind-altering, other-world-teleporting kind, and the lawn was hooked. Though the Lonnie in front of us now has a big and easy smile, his fast fingers on the keys move as they did decades ago… a nod to real dedication to his health and longevity. He credits his gorgeous wife (who prescribes plenty of yoga and eating well). Fifty years later, he’s better than ever …pricing a life lived fully is the perfect prescription for doing it right.

Maybe we could all be a little more like Lonnie. Live it up, then find the balance, and keep the passion burning.

Watching our audience teleport to another place in time was the gift.
And when Lonnie talked about being going to San Diego, spending time in Tijuana, and shouting,”Viva Mexico”…the whole crowd screamed “Viva Mexico” back at him 🫶🏼 Right on, Lonnie. Right on.

Week after week, I get a front row seat to what it takes to make a night like this happen, and I learn more every show. To the Omega crew and everyone at Hyatt, thank you for delivering a beautiful evening every single time. I see how hard you all work, and I feel lucky to be part of this crew.

Five years ago, I watched my first BayFest from the sidelines; a mom cheering on one of my kids working on stage. I didn’t know how meaningful BayFest would become to my family.

All those years, I carried a vision I never said out loud: a deep desire to be part of the meat of it. Every year, I have stepped a little closer to the heartbeat and behind the scenes work of BayFest. This year, I’m the Media Director *but* before I fully stepped into the role, I had to prove I was ready. For months I prepped - then showed up with a stockpile of valuable methods to make that quiet vision real - and operational. The most important piece was calling on the best creative warriors I know….

Because behind the scenes of any festival is an army of overcaffeinated, under-slept, endlessly giving problem-solvers. (750 mg of caffeine in 12 hours? You bet.)

You all experience three stages, but what I see is three different places to simultaneously cover by at least three different points of view…for 12 hours…over three days. Damn, right?

And this fresh team has what it takes to make it happen.

I learned what a team like this can be from Mikey. The Bruncle of all opened a door for one of my kids five years ago with nothing in it for himself. He holds a thousand details at once, and his vision is bigger than any one weekend. Contrary to what people might think, the man is not a rolling in MBF loot; he IS rich with generosity and experience so this little three day expanse of culture will be an annual stop on all our calendars. (Mikey4Mayor has a nice ring to it, yes?)

And all this means more because this is home. I grew up on Mission Bay. Somewhere, my mom has a Polaroid of me sitting on the hood of our 1981 blue Suburban, right on Paradise Point, absolutely hot pink sunburned, one hand deep in a box of Wheat Thins, the other holding a Shamu stuffy. Same bay, same girl, loving this place every bit as much as I did that day.

So this year is bittersweet, a whole bay-full of feels…it will be entirely unforgettable.

I’m honored to be the Mother of Media Warriors, all while wiggling through the crowd, capturing another year of smiling faces. 📸 🏹💫
