I said Oh that’s simple. To be seen….truly, deeply,
not just looked at but known.
Each layer met with care,
each silence understood.

To be heard, not just listened to,
to have my words land
like seeds in fertile soil,
growing in the heart of another.

To have my efforts reciprocated
step for step, pulse for pulse,
to meet someone who leans in as I do. Who reaches back with open hands, mind and spirit.

This is my longing, my quiet desire
to be met where I am.

Everybody “grown”

Everybody’s grown
until it’s time to speak with care.

Until communication asks for courage,

until an apology requires humility,

until the truth needs a place to land

that isn’t defensive or deflected.

Everybody “grown”

until listening means sitting with discomfort,

until hearing the truth

costs the version of ourselves

we’ve been protecting.

That’s why silence gets chosen so often.

It never asks for accountability.

It never risks being misunderstood.

It never has to stay.

Silence moves carelessly, collecting connections it never intends to keep.

And that’s how silence

ends up with more relationships

than commitment ever does.

Last night, @winedownanddc featured an amazing creative and insightful character @rebeldiction623 Spencer. Beyond his introspective poetry, Spencer leads conversations with respect for each speaker and with intention. Wine Down and the Cove was the perfect hybrid of communal intimacy, creativity, enlightenment… This is just the start of a new series within the Cove, where Spencer has been leading a men’s support group since March, every FIRST Thursday (the only Thursday you’re excused from Wine Down 🤓)‼️ You can find his offerings @_lunaslotus_
So many touched on faith, trust, and the role of facilitators and as Wine Down transitions to a new space, I (@sahdarim.simmons ) would like to take the time to thank everyone who makes Wine Down what it is. Thank you for being present in and creating a safe space where we can be, we can dance, we can even cry a little. Facilitation is an act of love for community and a service, both for the curator and the curatees. And may that love never die.
