We met Victor at the 19th annual "Bike the Bay" ride post ride festival. Vistor is one of the founders of the Suicide Awareness Ride. Suicide Awareness Ride's mission is simple – to provide a platform to heal, shift public perception, spread hope, and share vital information to people affected by suicide. Our goal is ensuring that individuals, friends, and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help. What started as a one-time ride in memory of loved ones lost to suicide, has become a powerful annual movement. Now in its 5th year, the 3-Day SuicideAwareness Bike Ride, founded by Victor Banales & Mike Malicdem, has created a growing platform for survivors, supporters, and advocates to take action, build community, and speak up about mental health. Yesterday (Sunday August 23, 2026) the 19th annual "Bike the Bay" ride took place in San Diego, California. The ride featured a rare, car-free ride across the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge. This year there were three route options: 5 mile, 25 miles and 50 mile ride for the approximtely 2,500 entrants. The 5 mile option focused strictly on the bridge crossing. The 25-Mile Classic was the standard loop around San Diego Bay via the Bayshore Bikeway through Coronado, Imperial Beach, Chula Vista, and National City. The 50-Mile Endurance Challenge featured a longer route with two passes over the bridge. The Post-Ride festival included live music, a beer garden, coffee, yoga sessions, and e-bike demonstrations at the finish line in Marina Park South near the Rady Shell. ReBikeSD provided mechanical support at the start/finish festival area and rest stops 2 and 3. At each of our locations there was a steady stream of riders needing help with their bikes from a little more air in their tires to flat repairs to all sorts of mechanical problems. ReBikeSD serviced an estimated 100+ riders during the course of the day.
