Happy International Dog Day courtesy of Pippin. I’d imagine there’s many dogs out there that don’t look as tired or emotionally drained as you, but you’re still our favourite sausage by @reclusivebear

2025 has been an incredibly hard year… in many ways much, much harder than 2021 ever was, despite the last quarter of that year being the most difficult my life had ever felt up to that point

However, there’s been a lot to be thankful for too… there’s been some really good moments and fun times amongst the harder ones and whilst it’ll obviously take a long time to heal and deal with “everything” the seeds of that happening do seem to be in place. I just need to keep trying to give myself the time and patience to allow that to actually happen

Grace has been incredible. I don’t know how she’s put up with me and how much I’ve struggled or felt “not there” at times. It’s often felt like I’ve not given enough or just been too “empty” to function properly but she’s stuck around and helped me so, so much and I’m so thankful for that. Also… despite Pippin being an absolute hoop at times the addition of her has honestly generally been for the better and also ended up helping to give me a bit of focus and forced me to stick to routine and get outside more when I’ve finished work or on days off when it’d have probably just been easier to stay inside and not deal with life

Finally: thank you to anyone who has reached out, chatted, asked how we’re doing or hung out. It’s all been extremely appreciated and helped more than I can express. I’m hoping next year we can get out more, go on more trips and meet up with people more often… and hopefully try to process this year as we move away from it!

(note to self: take more pictures next year… and not just loads of pictures of Pippin, haha)

(also: the song choice is apparently one of my most played songs this year… make of that what you will!) by @reclusivebear

I’m not one for making sentimental or emotional posts but I’ve felt for a while leading up to today that I probably need to with this… if only to help me get it out and hopefully process this year a little bit more

Today (December 17th) should be my Dad’s 66th birthday. Instead this is the first birthday where he’s not actually here, with it (obviously) also being the first Christmas without him not that far behind. My Mum not being around is something I’ve struggled to deal with over the past four years and I feel like the end to this year is most likely going to compound and amplify that struggle when it comes to fully coming to terms with everything. December being a time for family and it being something my Dad really enjoyed doesn’t make it easier… neither does working in a music shop and dealing with the usual entitled knobs that come with this time of year doesn’t either. I’m just looking forward to starting 2026 really

I’m going to try and listen to some T. Rex this evening, who were one of his favourite bands (if not his favourite) and try to think about all the good things that happened between 2021 and 2025… about how it felt like we got really close through everything that’d happened during that difficult period and how I wish we’d just gotten to have a bit more time to do the things we enjoyed together and how I wish it hadn’t ended like it ended up doing

Music and record collecting was something we did together a lot and talked about even more. I must have heard the story about how “Children of the Revolution” was the first single he ever bought a thousand times… about where he bought it from, the journey home, what he did leading up to playing it and how he played it a load of times back to back and how it took him right back to 1973 and being 14 again every time he heard that song. It sounds super cliche but I really wish I could hear that story just one more time, rather than being like “oh, good, this story again”

(I should probably vacuum the floor where the record shelves meet it before posting a photo of them, but whatever, haha) by @reclusivebear

I forgot to post about it after it happened but last Sunday we went to see Tom Meighan do a small acoustic gig in Wolverhampton. Kasabian has always been Grace’s thing rather than mine (although I do like a number of their songs) but it was still totally surreal seeing him play such an intimate venue. Weird! by @reclusivebear

A Sega Saturn and Dreamcast back beneath the television… as they should be. There’s nothing quite like a bit of trauma-based nostalgia to get you feeling a nice, warm glow, haha. I just need an upscaler now and I can actually use them in here! by @reclusivebear

I’ve (finally) slowly been getting somewhere with tidying up and organising this corner. Life has been hard recently, so this has been a nice distraction in a weird way

We had a nice, short break away in Devon & Somerset with Pippin (and Matt!) and not even a shitty experience with Airbnb could fuck it up! I just need it to be August and my next week off now by @reclusivebear

We’ve been up north for a few days whilst visiting my Dad in hospital again. We only got back home tonight and I should probably go to bed before work but whatever. It’s not been the easiest time as he’s been in and out a lot this past year (although he is back out now) but Pippin being around this time definitely made me and Grace (who really needs an entire account talking about how much they’ve helped me and how amazing they’ve been this past five years) smile a lot, which is definitely something

I’m never gonna stop posting about this dumb dog (sorry, haha) by @reclusivebear

I needed to use my laptop and found the owl books @thatdogperson_95 (❤️) got me for my birthday were with it. I thought I’d put them on the book shelves in our office, so was a really nice surprise to stumble upon them and flick through them again! by @reclusivebear
