On December 13th, 2014, I took the Oath of Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Army. Where I am no longer in the U.S. Army, I am still a commissioned officer. I never resigned my commission, a solemn pledge requiring me to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies. The actions of the United States Government funding Israel’s genocide against Palestine, now with an aid blockade, have become a forced famine. Genocide is a federal crime under the law. The Genocide Convention Implementation Act of 1987. 18 U.S. Code § 1091, which criminalizes acts of genocide committed by U.S. nationals or within U.S. jurisdiction. A genocide means committed acts with the intent to destroy, in whole or in substantial part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. Stop normalizing the genocide. #VeteransForPeace #VeteransForPalestine taken in American Legion Post 43 - Hollywood, CA by @red.pockets

52 years ago today, Miles Davis ‘On the Corner’ was released world wide. Allowing myself to grow from this album has been a rewarding experience. I hope others can find the world as an inspiring place as I do.

My first production, The REMAKING of Diana Ross performed a historic concert event titled “For One and For All” on the Great Lawn of New York City’s Central Park on July 21, 1983.

Summer 2024, I drove cross-country with my friend Cordova, making several stops along the way. One of my favorites was Marfa, Texas, where we went looking for James Dean sites, Hotel Paisano, and the locations of Giant (1956). Chasing the only sunset I caught in town, I climbed this industrial silo. I had gone to Marfa looking for one American monument and found another.

In 1927, American painter Charles Demuth painted My Egypt, transforming the grain elevators of his hometown, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, into something monumental. By placing the industrial structure on the scale of the ancient pyramids, Demuth captured both the ambition and unease of modern America.

My Egypt became one of the defining works of Precisionism, a movement that turned factories, skyscrapers, machinery, and the new American landscape into subjects for modern art.

“Don’t be afraid of failure because that’s the demon that will get in the way. Because failure is your friend; that’s when you learn. So go out there; you’re gonna belly flop and be embarrassed, that’s ok, that’s good. Because if you really love it, you have to be ready to go all the way,” Jack Black. July 1890. In the final weeks of his life, Van Gogh returned to the wheat fields of Auvers, finding something healthy and fortifying beneath troubled skies. The fields could still hold strength, movement, and transformation.

“I didn’t go to the moon. I went much further, for time is the longest distance between two places. Not long after that, I left St Louis. I descended the steps of our fire escape for the last time, and from then on, I followed in my father’s footsteps, attempting to find in motion what was lost in space. I traveled around a great deal, and the city swept about me like dead leaves, leaves that were brightly colored but torn away from the branches. I would have stopped, but I was pursued by something that always came upon me unawares - taking me altogether by surprise. Perhaps it was a familiar bit of music. Perhaps it was only a piece of transparent glass. Perhaps I’m walking along the street at night in some strange city before I have found companions.

I pass a lighted window of a shop where perfume is sold. Windows filled with pieces of colored glass. Tiny transparent bottles and delicate colors like bits of a shattered rainbow. Then, all at once, my sister touches my shoulder, and I turn around and look into her eyes.

“Laura, Laura. I tried so hard to leave you behind me, but I am more faithful than I intended to be. I reach for a cigarette, I cross a street, I run to the movies or a bar. I buy a drink. I speak to the nearest stranger. Anything that will blow your candles out. Nowadays, the world is lit by lightning. Blow out your candles, Laura. And so, goodbye.”
