First white wine review!

La Spinetta Langhe Bianco 2010 🇮🇹

🍇 Sauvignon Blanc
🥴 13% Alc.

My dad served it so I don’t know the temperature which it was served at nor if it was aerated at all.

All in all it’s a fabulous wine with a vibrant yellow colour and packed full of flavour, I’m having a hard time finding any smells due to all the smoke from the fire I’m currently sitting next to. Before the beautiful acidity hits, my palette is presented to loads of vanilla and green apple 🍏 it leaves a nice finish on the tip of my tongue with some banger exits of tropical fruits and honey 🍯

I’ve also had this very wine from 2013 and I’m surprised at how much better the 2010 performs taste wise. It paired fabulously with my scampi on toast and this entire concoction of wine, fire and seafood makes me think of Heaven knows I’m miserable now by The Smiths, we don’t need to read into that too much, I’m enjoying myself.

Surprise surprise! I’m back already and this time with a wine containing alcohol! I know that I said I’m taking a break from it but I’m making an exception today because I got my drivers license and that calls for celebration and what better way to celebrate than with a Pinot Noir.

🍇 Pinot Noir
🥴 13,5% Alc.

Chilled and aerated of course blah blah blah, anyway, it’s a German Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder if you will) from Pfalz made by the Becker family. First off, the winemakers description of the wine and then mine. “The grapes of this wine were harvested by hand during the month of September 2019. The wine was then later fermented in large open oak barrels followed by 17 months of storage in both small and large barrels. The taste features strawberry, cherry, wild raspberry, spices and a touch of oak to finish it off”. Then they list a bunch of food recommendations which I totally disregarded and had schnitzel with it instead (it was great). Maybe my tastebuds aren’t used to the taste of wine but in my opinion this PN is very heavy and lacks the cherry I want but all in all a very good and tasty wine, even the tannins are in the heavy side for a PN, oh well.

“Liberated from alcohol”

Something I’ve been sharing with the de-alcholized wines from Odd Bird for the past 2 months. Truly the past 2 months have been great for my body and mind but in regard for my wine interest it’s been awful, you’d think it be easy to make good wines without alcohol and boy would you be wrong. This wine is the only drinkable one that you can buy from Systembolaget.

🥴 <0.5% Alc.
🍇 Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan

In the region of Saint-Chinian located in southern France these grapes are cultivated in lands rich in schist and clay then aged in concrete tanks. The official flavour profile by the winemaker is dominated by red berries minerals and various spices. The minerals are clearly present and that’s thanks to the terroir of the grapes, red berries as well, more specifically strawberry and raspberry. There’s little to no tannins and it’s overall a very smooth and light wine.

See you all again when I abandon my principles and go back to a life of alcohol and dread.

Having a hard time lately finding motivation, hence the inactivity. But now we’re back and back with a special kind of wine.

Today marks 1 year since I created my very own wine in the shadows of my childhood room, and today I drank it.

🥴 13,4% Alc.
🍇 N/A

Served at room temperature and I didn’t aerate the wine since I do not think I’d make a difference. There’s honestly not a lot I can say about it, the smell is very unique and if you’ve ever had the pleasure of smelling alcohol made by your uncle who’s not allowed at birthday parties anymore (or anyone else’s). You’d recognise this hard to place smell. In other words I can’t explain it.

The taste is also like nothing I’ve come across before, it’s high in acidity and extremely fruity with absolutely zero tannins. This is probably something I’d give to someone who doesn’t like red wine but want to expand their horizons.

Hopefully I’ll post at least one review a week looking forward, but no promises. 🍷

Next up! An Italian wine produced by Enzo Bartoli, whom I know nothing about other than that they are situated in Piedmont. You’d think that I’d do my research so that this would actually be interesting and educational, but I’m too lazy. Anyway:

🥴 14% Alc.
🍇 100% Barbera

Served at room temperature and with pretty much zero aeration this wine is, even though I don’t usually like Italian wines, absolutely fantastic! It has a wonderful smell of oak and chocolate and has a pleasant ruby red colour. The taste is complex and has depth, lead by blueberries and ripe plum. It finishes off dry with a hint of lingonberry. Little to no tannins as well (thank god).

Not the best pairing with hot dog haha, but that is the only thing that was served at the place of consumption. It stands strong at its own but I’d imagine it’d pair well with an Italian pasta eaten at an authentic Italian restaurant in the northern part of their elongated country.

The grape Barbera accounts for approximately 55% of the wine production in Piedmont and is a very flexible grape that often offers low tannins and high acidity. It’s a fairly old grape thought to have originated in the 7th century. Absolutely fabulous when used correctly! 🍷 by @red__ones

Clearly I have a preference when it comes to red wine and maybe I prefer Pinot Noir because my palate is young but I like to think that I simply have good taste.

Bourgogne… where should I even start, the first thing that springs to mind when I hear the name is Pinot Noir (the tasty kind) and even though I’ve never been there I bet it would feel like home.

Burgundy wines tend to be lighter wines with less tannins and medium acidity, but in the end it’s up to the terroir to bless them with various flavour. Anyway on to this specific wine;

🥴 12.5% Alc.
🍇 100% Pinot Noir

Chilled to 14° and aerated for not even 10 minutes, when a wine is as light as this one I prefer to start of with it being very cold so that the more intense flavours and alcohol can creep up on me during the experience.

This is a very simple wine, there’s not a lot of complexity and it offers everything you’d normally expect from a PN; oak and vanilla on the nose and loads of cherry on the palate with a hint of raspberry and even a bit of mushroom? It has a low alcohol content and next to zero tannins which would make it enjoyable for just about anyone!

I don’t know a lot about Maison Louis Jadot but I know that they were founded in 1859 and that they make tasty and consistent table wine for a fair price, this bottle set me back 209kr (20$) which in my opinion is worth it. 🍷

Let’s kickstart this new adventure with a wonderful Pinot Noir from Carneros, California.

🥴 14.5% Alc.
🍇 100% Pinot Noir

Chilled to a perfect 16° and aerated for ≈20 minutes this wine offers everything you’d wish for in a PN, light spice on the nose with a hint of vanilla, a taste of red berries of course lead by strawberry and cherry, I can even taste a slight bit of coffee hiding in the background.

Buena Vista has really solidified themselves throughout history as a winery of class and wonderful taste, wouldn’t expect anything else than a great wine! 🍷
