MONOLITH AT RED BULL ARTS DETROIT, 10.8, 5-9PM

Join us next week for the opening of Monolith, an exhibition curated by Jess Allie that explores how four touchstones of our contemporary landscape (incarceration, grief, reproductive rights, and technology) permeate our interior lives. Artists Jex Blackmore (@jexblackmore), Jova Lynne (@jova_lynne) , #MaggieNguyen and Lauren Williams (@ldubalicious) present site-specific installations that challenge traditional modes of thinking by creating alternate narratives and perspectives across mediums.

Monolith will be the final exhibition in the Red Bull Arts Detroit space on view from October 8 to November 5th. After ten years, we are saddened to close the physical exhibition space and artist residency in Detroit, but look forward to building with our community partners and mounting nomadic programming in 2022. Stay tuned for more info over the coming months! taken in Red Bull Arts by @redbullarts

What if that transition from the black screen to the white screen had never happened? Or what would it have meant for the original black interface to continue to evolve? And how does this challenge the values we are constantly negotiating within computer technology?

#RedBullArtsResident American Artist’s (@ivorytower_headass) “Black Gooey Universe” presented @l_a_b_o_r redefines how we think about race in the digital age by exploring the history of computer technology. The exhibition is on view till November 6th.

“Mercado came at a time when I was thinking about my place as an artist within the capitalist framework…not being considered ‘American’ enough or ‘Dominican’ enough but refusing to be invisible, my own experience of the exchange of culture and goods between the two places.” - @lucia_hierro_

Make sure to visit Lucia Hierro’s first solo museum exhibition “Marginal Costs” @thealdrich, on view until January 2022. The exhibition spans work from three distinctive series: recent and new sculptures from the Mercado (Market) series, 2014–; the debut of the Gates, 2021–; as well as her most ambitious wall mural to date—both specially commissioned by The Aldrich.
