Some pics of the “Type 2” fun…

- Evening sit and the weather decided to add some hail to the mix
- After hiking for several hours, we get to a spot expecting to see elk
- It was easy to cross in the morning…the evening was a different story. We got to do the “Logpole Scoot”.
- No. 4 and 5 just don’t capture how precarious the traverse was
- Cattle trails are great until they run out

Regardless, it was an incredible trip and looking forward to doing more next year!

Much learned…much enjoyed.

I will never give anyone the impression I’m this awesome, experienced, skilled hunter who gets it done every year. Most years, I bring my tags home in the same condition they were in when I left home. I’m okay with that. While others are watching movies of mountains and wildlife, I’m taking pictures of them. While others are reading articles and watching videos, I’m getting “on the job” training. So, what did I learn this year?

- I still hate rain…more than snow. It’s emotional “kryptonite”. More than half of the trip was spent in rain gear or wishing I had on rain gear.
- I told @jbarklow I suck at making fires. I’ll brush up on his content and be prepared next time.
- I had the bright idea I wouldn’t need my bugle tube. The cow call only worked to a point. I won’t make that mistake again.
- Know your limitations. Know when you need to take a break.
- When your brain is complaining but your body is fine, choose wisely which you ignore.
- I used AI to put my meals together and forced myself to finish them each day. I also ignored the “save ounces” noise and carried a real sleeping pad. It made a huge difference!

A huge thanks goes to my son and his friend who have become two of my favorite people to hunt with. In seven days, we covered a lot of miles because we made a plan and followed through regardless of level of difficulty of terrain or certainty of success. Neither of them loosed an arrow, but we got close, we learned a lot, and had experiences that can’t be explained in mere words or pictures.

Being the person God created you to be and honoring Him in it is how you glorify God.

Another masterpiece in the making…

I had the pleasure of meeting Jaden Miller (@West_Elk_Precision) at the Burning Mountain @NRLHunter match, but I’ve heard his name repeatedly because of the number of people who use his rifles and services. Ever since my good friend closed his shop (Thank you, radical Colorado politicians), it’s been difficult. The fact is gunsmiths are everywhere, but a good one is hard to find. (One who can tolerate my overthinking and barrage of questions is special.😂) So, I’m [wisely] letting Jaden take the lead as we put the pieces together.

Do I need another rifle? No, what I have works fine. I prefer to see this as a “relationship building exercise”.😉

It’s like building a house without a foundation.

Pro Tip: If you have a vacuum sealer, individually seal each day’s worth of food. It compresses the food and forces me to eat what I’m supposed to eat.😁

I promise you…

…this shop was organized. I think I lost my Vortex Talons somewhere in here.🤔

This year has been crazy (recap coming later) and I don’t see it slowing down. I’m heading out for archery elk on the 17th with @Shasta_Cola and his buddy, so need to get ready for that. Got some experimenting to do with pistols, primers, bullets, binos, ballheads, rifles, annealers, and some secret stuff.

It’s going to be a fun few months and the first @NRLHunter match will be here before I know it…
