The long awaited return of 'Rivals S2' is finally here!!!

We were absolutely delighted to work with David Tennant again giving Lord Baddingham a nasty clobber to the head!

Thank you so much to HMU Designer @jill_sweeney_mua for having us involved on this incredible show, and @djmakeupandhair for being so lovely to work with on DT 🥰

Jill had a clear plan of how to chart Tony's injury so we designed a great prosthetic and wig combo that worked a treat! We also made some tattoo transfers for the bruising to help with continuity which tracked for a long time during the show over various stages.

About last night!!!

So so happy to win at the RTS Craft Awards last night. I feel so proud of what we achieved on the show, it's just wonderful to have that recognised by the Jury.

Big thank yous to everyone involved at Redgirl, Ray Marston, Fangs FX, Eyeworks and Mobile Spray Tanning London. And thank you so much to BBC Science and Netlfix for giving us the opportunity to work on such a dream of a brief with the most incredible access to expert research in the field.

Still reeling from the incredible news that we have been nominated by @theacademy for Best Makeup & Hairstyling for our work on Dame Helen Mirren as 'Golda Meir' alongside @karen_hartley_thomas and her amazing Hair & Makeup Team!

Of course, no prosthetic makeup can come together without a team of artists working tirelessly in a dusty and sticky workshop! So here's a MASSIVE shout out and thank you to the Prosthetics Team at Red Girl who worked on 'Golda'👏👏👏

At the Makeup & Hairstyling Bake-Off in LA, I spoke about how amazing an opportunity 'Golda' was. Jobs like this don't come around very often, particularly for a newer company like Red Girl - one that is not only run by a woman but has mostly women in the workshop as well (and Raj, who we love!) That makes this nomination all the more special to me and an incredible milestone for Red Girl ❤️

We had such a laugh transforming @niko into 'Harry Bozux' 🤭 for an undercover video working at a supermarket earlier this year!

Niko is so recognisable it can be tricky for him to go under the radar so we were asked to give him a new identity... We used custom pieces on his forehead, brows and nose, a wig, laid on facial hair and teeth and plumpers to alter the lower half of his face.

Honestly such a pleasure to work with Niko and his team, absolutely brimming with ideas and we couldn't be happier to help bring some of them to life!

A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into all the work we did for Silo Season 3 but I’m so excited to share some of the cool stuff I got to work on as part of the hardcore @redgirlfx team last year.
There were 3 different stages of burns created for @timrobbinshere but my personal favourite to work on were the fresh burns. I did all of the silicone fabrication and pre painting of these pieces which was a pretty massive job…I think it was around 90 pieces in 7-8 days (including a lot of continuity work for the different shoot days). Very grateful to @suzbat for trusting me so much with this look.
I also sculpted a few additional pieces for this makeup and jumped into some of the silicone running too.
It was a very tight turn around but the whole team absolutely smashed it!

Next up on 'Silo' S3... SHIRLEY

From S1, Shirley has had this incredible hair design but for S3, @remmiemilner had longer hair, so we helped the HMU department recreate her iconic hairstyle using a custom hairpunched prosthetic.

It took some time to figure out the most undetectable finish but we all put our heads together to pull it off. Lisa Carracedo Barbet did a stellar job figuring out the best place to punch the hair, and Louise Coles and her team did an incredible job styling it to hide our edge. From the start, we identified those box braids to be our secret weapon. 😉

Always strange to do prosthetics that you hope no-one notices! This one was super satisfying to do and Remmie rocked the hell out of it!

Another season of Silo is out! Thinking back to my first day on Season 3... Starting with a full head cast @redgirlfx!! Absolute legends. Felt lucky to head to their warehouse and see them work. A treasure chest of limbs, heads, burns, hair, masks, scars..! Unique for sure.

Thank you to @annamorenabarber for your support that day and especially for the auntie cuddles with our freshly cooked first born.

🔥 SILO S3 - Bernard Holland 🔥

Working on Silo S3 was an incredibly rewarding experience and I’m thrilled to finally share some snaps!

From workshop to test makeups and finally application, achieving this look took a huge team effort. It was a privilege to work for @redgirlfx & @louisecoleshair_makeup both in art finishing at the workshop and application, looking after @timrobbinshere on set alongside @dommyelise & @toniamia

One of the most fascinating parts of the job whilst painting the pieces (established by @suzbat) was exploring the range of undertones and colours found in deep burns and scarring which depending on the lighting set up, we’d have to subtly adjust to make sure they’d always read beautifully on camera.

The burns consisted of multiple prosthetics with large sections glued into Tim’s beard and hairline (sorry for all the beard boogers) whilst silicone transfers and bondos added extra damaged areas to Tim’s face, pulling the whole look together.

How have you been enjoying 'Silo' Season 3? It's been SO amazing, and we are so lucky to have continued our collaboration with Louise Coles and her colossal Hair and Makeup team after Seasons 1 and 2. Season 3 brought some major prosthetic builds which I'm excited to share with everyone...

First up... the biggest of all. 'Bernard' played by Tim Robbins @timrobbinshere who was absolutely amazing in the chair and on-screen with it all!

This healed burns stage was a multi-piece prosthetic makeup which had to work around and incorporate both head and facial hair using hair-punched silicone pieces, silicone transfers and bondos. For added depth of texture we decided to transpose the sculpt into a plaster master (beautifully done by Rachael Mao) which worked wonders to catch the light on set.

We were lucky to have a few tests to get the design right which Lou and I worked very closely together on, finding the correct balance of believability and shock factor whilst not overwhelmimg and distracting his overall look for the whole show. We also had to balance the subtlety of the colour work with the often dark and atmospheric lighting, requiring the on set team (Ashra, Dom and Tonia 🙌) to punch up certain colours differently depending on what came their way that day. A real puzzle to figure out working in and around Tim's hairline and beard! A really rewarding challenge which everyone pulled off so brilliantly.

This is the continuation of Alby's scarring makeup on his older self for 'Half Man' for @hbo and @bbc created by @mrrichardgadd and directed by @alexandrabrodski and @eshrefreybrouck

When we see Alby again, many years have passed and he's been able to have surgery to minimise his scars and move on with his life. It was important for HMU Designer @nicoletulloch_mua that we still see the awful damage inflicted by Ruben but that it wasn't too shocking and distracting for the viewer. So after we had established the look on young Alby, we figured out a more subtle and restored version with cooler colouring for this Alby, played with such heart and hope by @charliedemelo 🩷

Severe scarring makeup we did on Episode 3 of 'Half Man' for @hbo and @bbc created by @mrrichardgadd and directed by @alexandrabrodski

Alby's storyline was particularly difficult so we worked carefully with HMU Designer @nicoletulloch_mua
to find the right level of scarring to tell his story and show his vulnerability after Ruben attacks him so violently. The moment in the court room is absolutely heartbreaking when you see him for the first time, played beautifully by Bilal Hasna. 💔
