☆ Reading Goals 2026 ☆

Happy New Year booklovers! 🤍

It's January 1st and I'm all set for another year of bookish wonders and escapism! And hopefully a lot of fun talks, buddy-reads and challenges! ✨️

And my first challenge for the year was to accept that my pile of owned TBRs has gotten a lot bigger 🙈🤪

Depite my inspirational 2025 TBR bingo, motivating me to prioritise my already owned books and last year's publications that I knew I would get (I ticked off 60% of the books, 48 out of 81), I still ended up having more unread books on my shelves at the end of the year than what I had in January.

BUT! It doesn't bum me out, if I'm being honest. Instead, it has just made me go even bigger and bolder this year! My 81 TBR bingo is now THE BIG 100!! Just to remind myself of all the exciting reads I already got right here in my own home!

📕 This year's bingo sheet has 70 physical reads from my bookshelves: some already been on my reading list a year or more (dark pink) and some new to the list (light pink).

📗 As always, I also got my auto-buy authors and my subscription boxes, so I've made sure to add 14 2026-publications.

📓 Last but not least - I gotta make sure I read some of my ebooks as well! So, I've also included 16 titles from my list of unread kindle-reads.

🧮 BUT! I don't plan to go for all 100 them - that's just unrealistic 😁 I would, however, be very happy if I at least tick off 50🤞

The big question, though, can I limit my purchases to the ones I've already added to this bingo (and the rest of the subscription books I'll get)?

No, I think not! 😝 But let's just pretend I'll do my best to not buy more books anyway 😂

To sum it up, my overall reading goal is:

📚 to read 75 books
📖 and 30 000 pages

...just like last year 😊

❔️How do you plan to tackle your TBR pile this year? Or are you numbers of TBRs not a question as they're pretty low, or even better: you use your local library instead of buying your reads? ❤️

I wish you all a great, magical bookish year! Happy reading, my friends 💜

☆ Read Palestine Week ☆

19 years ago I visited Palestine. I met both Palestinians and Israelis talking about independence for Palestine as they believed it to be the only way for the bombing and militant attacks on civilians to stop (on both sides), for neighbours, families and friends reconnecting across boarders and walls, for stopping further settlements to strategically pushing families away from their homes, and for giving the Palestinians a chance to strive and build a land of stability and a future of possibilities... not restrictions, segregation, isolation and poverty 🇵🇸

We got the chance to visit Hebron and Jericho which have often been on "lock downs", meaning the Israli army is denying foreigners access. When international aid, media or tourists' acces to a place are limited, I can't help thinking it's because there's something to hide. Which I'd say the situation in Gaza has proven time and time again 😥

We didn't visit Gaza. But the Norwegian doctors Mads Gilbert and Erik Fosse have put themselves in dangerous situations several times in order to provide medical help to the area. During the Israli invasion of Gaza in 2008/2009, Israel blocked all aid and media from entering and making sure no international organisation (and locals for that matter) were able give the world a report of the human deprivation taking place. But Gilbert and Fosse did stay in Gaza depite the attacks and did their best to help, and have made sure to do what they can to talk about what they saw 💫

Øyne i Gaza / Eyes in Gaza is available in English and I'd recommend it if you want to know more about what tragedies unfolded behind those walls... and somehow unfolds again... 🕯

The other book is a recap, sort of, of the history between Palestine and Israel, authored by a Palestinian and an Israeli. It was part of the curriculum at the "International Understanding and Cooperation" class I took in 04/05. The English title is "The Israel-Palestine Conflict. A beginners Guide." 📖

Do you have a Palestinian read recommendation? 🤍

Hope you're all safe and well ✨️💗✨️

Happy Sunday - It's #namecore time 😁

Thank you @evitaveda for the tag! 🥰🥰

So... Heidi-core is:

✴️ Starting the day with coffee - ending it by reading till I pass out ( 📷 1)

✴️ Going absolutely bananas if I want to listen to music, but for some reason can't! (📷 2)

✴️ Saying hi, bye, good night and whatever needs to be said during the day... to my cat 😝 (📷 3)

✴️ Insecurities...

✴️ Getting the best energy boost when my bf takes me kayaking ❤ (📷 4)

✴️ Hours on concrete floors or some muddy field, in Converse, just to get my dose of live music 🥳 (📷 5)

✴️ Spacing out in front of a bonfire 😵‍💫

✴️ Watching cat reels 😁

✴️ Buying random beers/ciders because of the design on the can - apparently it isn't just books I buy because of the cover! (📷 6)

✴️ Weekend getaways🍷

✴️ Annoying folks with random "have you heard this one?" when the party is kinda over and everyone just wanna go to bed - you bet I have a playlists for those occasions as well 🤣 (📷 7)

✴️ A general FOMO vibe manifested in my body 🤪

✴️ Still playing my guitar, hoping to get back that inner drive to create music 🎼

✴️ Rambling enthusiastically if I have too many days without talking to someone - my sincere apologies to those affected 🙈

✴️ Being grateful for my family and friends 💕

✴️ Laughing when no-one else is laughing - Tearing up when I see something heartwarming - Not really reacting when a person die in a movie, yet bawl if an animal gets hurt 💫

So, yeah... Heidi-core is a whole lot of emotions making life an exhausting, yet awesome, journey ✨️

I love reading everyone's namecore posts, so I've tagged a few - but no pressure - only if you think it might be fun and haven't done it yet 💜 To the rest of you - if you feel inspired - go for it! And I'll be very happy if you tag me cause I'd love to see your post! 💞

Big hugs to everyone in this great community 🌻

🗡 Book Thoughts 🗡

❔️Has your own ambivalence about a book ever made you wanna reread it? 📖

Shalini Abeysekara managed to get a weird hold on me with her first book This Monster of Mine. The questions about the fmc's past - so dark, so violent, one she only remembered in glimpses - intrigued me.

The slow burn enemy to lovers side plot also worked well. It actually used the entire book, more or less, to evolve into something. A type of romance story I like in my fantasy reads! 🤩

So, I was excited to see how this would all continue in the sequel, This Blade of Ours.

The 2nd book jumped straight into the midst of it all, a situation stressing out the "elite" as much as the "regular folks". We're talking a nasty plague, a popular drug maybe intentionally poisoned, people dying in waves, and mysterious circumstances making some think it all might be deliberate actions by someone high up, threatening the peace between the different regions.

I was intrigued, again. However, something about this book and how it progressed made me never really get invested (in the fmc) like I was in the first book.

And though I liked that I got the chance to get to know the mmc and his story better in this one, it being more dual POV structured than the 1st book, I thought their emotional connection mostly came across through what was being said - keeping it on the surface... if that makes any sense. 🤔

Now, I was over all struggling a bit to concentrate on my physical reads at the time. I even shared a post about it, and you guys were the best. I rarely DNF, but even that felt like an okay alternative after talking to you ❤️

But my own stubbornness did win 🤪 I decied to give it my all for one (more) day before making a choice, which turned into me finishing the rest of it the day after that. Oh well 😅

Still got some mixed feelings about the book, though, and reading it at a later time might've worked better for me–and the book–but I'm glad I finished it.

For now it's getting a 3⭐️ from me; I might actually reread this duology at one point.

I'm also still curious to see what kind of story Abeysekara will give us next 😃

Hope you're all having a good day 🧡🍂 by @redheadbooks

💭 Comics Review 💭

Finally read another volume (the 9th) of Vaughan & Staples' comic series Saga back in August! Here are some thoughts 😊

What has made me keep going back this series so far is how each volume have something unique about them, often giving me character-stories with questions and conundrums highlighting certain themes and tackling certain social issues—all very relevant to our own, real life society—which I LIKE! 😍

This one, however, was more about the actual plot for me. It felt more fast-paced and action-driven than many of the previous volumes, and I really enjoyed that as well. I think I finished it even faster than what I normally do 🤩

Another volume will definitely be put on next year's reading list as well, which has become my thing: read 1-2 volumes each year. 📖

From what I understand, there's 12 volumes published so far, but it's said to be 6 more to come before the series is completed. Yay! 😃

❓️Do you read comics or graphic novels? Any faves or recs? 📚

Hope you're enjoying your current reads! 🧡🍂 by @redheadbooks

🔮 Readers Copy Review 🔮

I had the pleasure of receiving and reading the first book in Sturle Brustad's MG series Lucifer og Djeveltinget ("Lucifer and the Devil's Court"). The first book was then given to my friend's son, who also liked it - and I'm happy to say that I think the second book, which came out in September, was even more enjoyable 😃

Takk for boka @forfatter_sturle 😊

Wish you all a good weekend 🧡 by @redheadbooks

🇵🇸 Book Thoughts 🇵🇸

Want to know more about the history of Palestine and Israel, Gaza in particular? Then I would definitely recommend this book for my Norwegian friends.

This started off as a project for the author, Marte Heian-Engdal, to meet this Gazan family and collect stories about certain traditions and cultural aspects that are unique to Palestine and Gaza. Then "7th of October" happened, and the author's talk with the family and the fact that they ended up living within a war-zone raised the need, and a wish, to change focus. And Et Gaza liv (A Gaza Life) slowly took form.

The book takes you through the history of the area (from 1900 or so leading up to "today" especially). We get to hear about events, conflicts and political pulses and changes, internationally and locally, that have had an affect on Gaza and its people. At the same time we get to follow a Gazan family across several generations. And it is the mix of the two—one part being more fact-oriented, the other one more biographical—that makes this book both educational as well as an engaging and emotional read. Not to mention a very easy read for being a nonfiction historical book.

The history of Israel and Palestine and Gaza is of course a very complex matter. And this being a book following a Gazan family, there will of course be parts others might view or explain differently, or phrase differently, or think as less important than other parts maybe not even mentioned here.

But I do think the author has done a good job when it comes to how she has presented things. She won't shy away from calling out the violations done to civilians, whether it's done by Israelis or Palestinians, or how international politics (the so-called Western countries in particular) have been more of an escalating than a de-esalating factor to "the conflict". She also makes sure to point out nuances and variations within the different sides of the boarder.

One book can't give you a full understanding of "the Gaza situation", but I'd say this book is a particularly good one if you want to learn more, but as a reader feels a bit intimidated by nonfiction books.

Hope you're all doing well 🧡 by @redheadbooks

🧡 Weekend Wrap Up & Current Reads 🧡

This weekend was all about gathering my partner's entire family and say a final goodbye to his dad who passed away in March.

His final wish was to do one last trip across the mountains where he has gone so many times before with his sled and his many huskies. We scattered his ashes (after getting an approval) in Numedalslågen, a river running all the way from these mountains to where we live south east in Norway.

It was a beautiful Autumn send off, true to who my "father-in-law" in was - and it couldn't be done without some Pink Floyd 🧡

We all also got together on Sunday and did some maintenance on the cabin and making it Winter-ready ❄️

Swipe to see more pictures from the weekend, and a final one from today: Both my bf and I asked to have today off, so I'm gonna spend this day with my books (titles on last slide) and pop in here now and then and just relax and watch some series with my bf ❤️

Love to hear about your weekend - or what you're currently reading 🤗

His last husky, Bruse, is still with us, now living with my partner's sister and her family. Bruse was actually born in this area, so he we think he both sensed his past and his previous owner ❤️

🔸️Current reads:

📖 If My Words Had Wings by Danielle Jawando

📱 Vernon Subutex by Virginie Despentes

🎧 Innanfor. Utanfor – men alltid autist (a memoar about being autistic and (not) fitting in) by Stine Hanssen Brattland

🎧 Needing some fiction next to the nonfiction audio books and concidering the dramatised audio version of Martha Wells' first book in The Murderbot Diaries. by @redheadbooks

🖤 Rereads & October Publications 🖤

October gonna be big month of new publications for me to pick up! And I already started preparing for it early this year by rereading Schwab's Vicious - cause we're finally getting a third book in this series!

I plan to reread Vengeful as well, very soon - starting this weekend or early next week (going away for the weekend, and I think I'll just bring my current paperback read with me, and my ereader of course, you never know, right?

Swipe to see more covers of Schwab's series and other new releases I'm super excited to read this Autumn! 🤗

Is there a publication yet to come this year you can't wait to get your hands on? 📚

Wishing you all a good weekend 🧡

Can't wait to reread this one 🤩

Victorious by Schwab will be available 6th of October 🖤

The House of Gardenias by Isabel Cañas will be available 1st of October.

It is Cañas first YA book, but still writing within her horror genre - giving us Mexico during the 18th and 19th century and some eerie gothic atmosphere - like The Hacienda and Vampires of El Norte.

Our Norwegian Queen of Fantasy is back with her final book in the Vardari trilogy - available on 1st of October.

"Vardari is a spellbinding fantasy trilogy on a norse foundation, about blood, desire and addiction, set in the frozen and mysterious city of Náklav." (from siripettersen.com)

Now this one is actually out already (15th of September)! But I just haven't gotten around to order it... until today 🙈

This is Leigh Bardugo's conclusion to her Ninth House trilogy - "a tale of power, privilege, dark magic, and murder set among the Ivy League elite."

Bardugo also released Six of Crows: A Darker Shore: Letters from Ketterdam back in July - and I so wanna be back in Ketterdam! But for some reason I still haven't received my copy... Had to mail the store today and see what's going on... So fingers crossed I'm not too late for complaining about their shipment and that I'll get a new copy 🤞

Thank you for swiping and reading my post this Friday 🧡 by @redheadbooks
