Well, this was not a normal day for Lavolio. I started the morning pitching our handmade Italian confectionery to Indian buyers as part of Great British Pitch India. And I ended it in Downing Street, meeting the Chancellor of the Exchequer. There are founder moments that make you stop for a second. This was one of them. When I started Lavolio, I was not thinking about Downing Street, export opportunities or pitching to buyers from one of the most exciting gifting markets in the world. I was thinking about how to explain a product that is not quite chocolate, not quite sweets, not traditional confetti, and not very easy to put into one sentence. Handmade with real nuts, fruit, jellies, coffee, chocolate and spices. Colourful, giftable, slightly mysterious. Easy to eat. Hard to forget. So to have the chance to present Lavolio to Indian buyers felt very special. India is one of the most sophisticated gifting cultures in the world, so pitching Lavolio there felt less like entering a new market and more like finding people who immediately understood the product. For a confectionery brand that sits somewhere between food, gift and design, that kind of access is rare — and potentially transformative. For a small business, access like this matters. You can spend years trying to reach the right rooms. And sometimes, an initiative like this opens the door. A huge thank you to Michelle Ovens CBE, Small Business Britain, Department for Business and Trade, HM Treasury and everyone behind Great British Pitch India for creating such a generous and practical opportunity for small businesses. It was also a real privilege to hear from and meet Rachel Reeves, and to be part of a conversation that recognised how much small businesses can contribute when they are given access, visibility and belief. I came away re-energised, slightly overwhelmed, and very grateful.
