Over 35 years of drawing dragons and flowers, and I’m still having fun and learning every day. With more than 25 years of tattooing in different styles, I’ve found my path—fully dedicating myself to traditional Japanese tattooing.

These last few years, I’ve been studying hard, digging into the meaning behind these tattoos, visiting temples and shrines, and talking to people in Japan about their culture. The more I learn, the more fascinated I become.

This isn’t just a commitment—it’s a lifestyle. I’m always traveling, learning, and growing, and I couldn’t be happier about it. I hope this passion comes through in my paintings and tattoos! taken in Red Label Tattoo Studio by @redlabelart

Observation—Resilience means the ability to bounce back or recover from challenges, stress, or hardship — and come back even stronger.

In the context of a chrysanthemum (especially in Japanese symbolism), it represents strength through adversity, inner grace, and the ability to endure and thrive, no matter the conditions.

So when you say the chrysanthemum symbolizes resilience, you’re saying it’s a flower that reflects quiet strength — it keeps standing tall, even in tough times. Kind of like my clients sitting through a full sleeve session with purpose and determination.

One thing I need to remember…
Not just because I love tattooing, but because I get to see how much these tattoos can mean to people.

For me, a tattoo has never been just ink on the skin. Sometimes it becomes part of a much bigger change, a new chapter a transformation, a way of leaving something behind and moving forward.

I’ve been lucky enough to watch people go through incredible changes in their lives, and somehow, I get to be a small part of that journey.

That’s probably why almost every client eventually becomes a friend. If you read my reviews, I think you’ll understand exactly what I mean. ❤️

First time in my entire life!!!…
working on a leopard!

Last winter, I was thinking about doing a tiger with rocks and bamboo. That’s a pretty common combination but I wanted to add something different: snow.

You rarely see snow in traditional Japanese tattoos, and during my last trip to Kyoto, I came across some ukiyo-e artwork with a lot of snow. It got me thinking about adding snow to my own idea.

Then winter was long, and the idea kind of faded away… until Guillermo came to me asking for a snow leopard backpiece.
And BOOOOM!!! Here we are!

Guillermo also knows a lot about Japanese culture and I’m not shy about learning more so I think we’re making a pretty great team here.

There’s something you need to know about this “empty space”

I’ve been doing sleeves for many years, and this is probably my favorite part so far.

Back in the ’90s, a friend of mine lent me a Japanese tattoo book, and that’s when I really started studying Japanese tattooing. There’s something you need to know about this particular part of the tattoo: it’s one of the most interesting parts to me because it’s almost like a secret spot where people would add personal, crazy, and sometimes sexual designs that had absolutely nothing to do with the story of the overall tattoo or horimono they were wearing.

Sometimes you’d find penises, vaginas, and all kinds of weird stuff 😂

What a weekend in Montreal! 🙏

So good to catch up with old friends, meet new people, share stories, and of course, tattoo a bunch of amazing people.
