SAN BERNARDINO, 2030

The City That Time Forgot.

Once the heart of the Inland Empire, downtown San Bernardino is now a shadow of its former self.

The economic collapse of 2027 forced businesses to close, families to leave, and an entire city to slowly fade into silence.

The Carousel Mall stands abandoned. Empty parking structures echo with memories of better days. Weeds push through cracked pavement, reclaiming what was once theirs.

The California Theatre still stands, its marquee advertising a world that no longer exists.

No disaster. No war. No apocalypse.

Just a city slowly forgotten by time.

San Bernardino, California. 2030.

The world didn’t end. It just stopped coming here.

📼 A fictional glimpse into a future that feels strangely familiar.

A celebration of culture, tradition, and community. 🕯️💀🌼

AK Smiley Public Library brought the community together for Día de los Muertos, honoring loved ones through beautiful ofrendas, vibrant Catrinas and Catrinos, and a day filled with food, games, and cultural traditions.

From the detail and meaning behind each altar to the creativity and pride displayed in the Catrina and Catrino contest, the event was a beautiful reminder of the importance of remembering those who came before us and keeping our traditions alive.

A day of remembrance, celebration, and community in Redlands. ❤️

CHAPTER II — THE GHOSTS OF REDLANDS
October 16, 2030 | Redlands, California

Four years after the collapse.
The journey east from San Bernardino led us into Redlands, a city once known for its citrus groves, historic homes, and quiet streets. Nature had begun reclaiming the valley. Weeds pushed through the pavement, abandoned homes disappeared beneath overgrown trees, and the distant mountains stood silently over what remained.

Near the eastern edge of town, we discovered an old agricultural equipment yard. Rusting trucks, forgotten tractors, and machines from another century stood exactly where their owners had left them. Some had been abandoned long before the collapse. Others appeared to have been moved more recently. A faded green truck still carried the words Jacinto & Son — Mentone, California.

Inside an old wooden barn, tools hung untouched. Sunlight slipped through the cracks, illuminating decades of dust. It was strange. In a world where everything had fallen apart, this place looked almost exactly as it had before. Then we found something beneath one of the machines……A small metal container holding a handwritten note.

“If you’re reading this, stay away from the orange groves after sunset.”

There was no name. No date. Only three words written beneath the warning.

“They still harvest.”

We left before dark. But as we reached the road, somewhere behind us, an old engine began to turn. for the first time since leaving San Bernardino, we heard something other than the wind.
