I have been racing for 9yrs and gone from your local Cat 4 to being the top ranked rider on @thebritishcontinental Rider Rankings.

But let’s take a look back to where I started and how I got to where I am now.

Booked your next training camp and looking to get the jump on your opposition for the 2026 season? Make sure you follow these tips:

1. You should go into your training camp with clear objectives. If you’re looking for a big aerobic endurance boost, why are you doing taxing threshold/VO2 intervals?
2. You’ve just flown out somewhere warm and sunny, don’t get carried away and spend your first few days doing your longest rides in a long time.
3. If you want to train more, eat more. Fuel well before, during, and after training. This is your opportunity to make big progress, so don’t let under-fuelling hold you back.
4. We all like spending time with mates, and it’s likely you’re away with some friends. But now probably isn’t the time to be smashing the pints and staying up late. Save that for another time.
5. Finally, don’t wait until your last day to go and do 200km. You’ll likely fly back depleted and pick up an illness on the flight home.

If you have any thoughts/questions, leave a comment or send a DM and we’ll get back to you.

Most self-coached riders quit their New Year plan by February.

But not because they’re lazy.

They try to do too much, too quickly.

More volume, more intensity, no consistency.

Send a DM to get your 2026 off to a great start.

Spend multiple hours a week on the indoor trainer? Trying to maximise your ability to perform in hot conditions? You run the risk of dehydration. Here’s more⬇️

Multiple studies have shown that euhydrated (correctly hydrated) athletes experience a smaller decrease in performance when fatigued and/or in warmer conditions than those in a dehydrated state. A 2013 study showed that well-trained cyclists were ~6% faster in a 5km hillclimb compared to those in a dehydrated state. This came after ONLY 1hr of steady state cycling in moderate temperatures. Euhydrated participants had a higher sweat rate, and a lower core body temperature when directly compared to the dehydrated group (Bardis et al., 2013).

What can we take from this study?

Proper hydration is critical for athletic performance. As you become dehydrated, your blood volume begins to decrease and blood becomes more viscous. Your heart must work harder to maintain its cardiac output. As a result of this, the blood flow to the surface of your skin is reduced, hindering the ability to dissipate heat adequately. Thus, proving more difficult to regulate core body temperature.

The list goes on for the consequences of dehydration, from muscle fatigue to impaired cognitive function.

Could inadequate hydration be what’s holding you back from progressing further? It’s definitely something you should be considering.

Quick takeaways regarding hydration:

💧 Monitor hydration throughout the day - stay on top of it
💧 Drink little and often - don’t wait until you’re already feeling thirsty
💧 Use electrolytes
💧 Monitor sweat rate especially during hotter rides or when on the indoor trainer - pre/post ride weigh-ins

rewind ⏪ to UCI 1.2 CiCLE classic 2 weeks ago

Pleasure to share the start line with @edayres321 again.
One of the most challenging and unique races on the UK calendar and the 1st UCI race for Ed 🤩

Achievement in itself to make the squad and get to the start line… brilliant learning opportunity and character building, lots learnt to carry forward into the season. Super proud of Ed’s hard work and commitment week in week out, and what we have achieved together over the last 10 months💪🏼

Ed is back this weekend racing at the Rapha Lincoln GP where we will both be on the start line. This is more crucial experience for Ed as we look to start getting results at a National level knowing his physiology is already there 💯 by @redline__coaching

Happy new year from Redline 🍾🍻
That time of year where we’re starting to approach those early season races - with the weather not on our side, it’s tough to keep the motivation high AND keep enjoying the process.

Key winter tips:
- 📝 short term goals to ensure there’s always something to aim for
- 🖥️ 🚴zwift racing or other alternatives
- 👬👭 group rides to keep the morale high ⬆️
- ☀️ training camps if lifestyle allows
- 🏋️🏃‍♀️mix it up and keep it interesting - gym, running, cyclocross etc.

Whether it’s a sportive, gran fondo, crits, your local club time trial, road races, or purely aiming to become a stronger rider Winter is the perfect time to start setting those foundations ➡️ winter miles 🟰 summer smiles😁

George was one of the first people I met at Swansea University through cycling and has remained a good friend for the last 5yrs. At the start of the summer, George came to me asking for help on the bike. He hadn’t been enjoying cycling and was struggling for motivation to train.

George’s previous coach had made him into a fit individual, but there was no specificity in his training leading to a lack of progression in target events.

We discussed his plans across the remainder of the summer and what George wanted from it. An Interclub TT for a PB time was the main goal and we had an ambitious goal of 350w for 20mins.

The TT PB was absolutely smashed whilst also producing some of George’s best numbers for 20mins, over a ~25min effort.

The ambitious goal… well we’re 1w off. However, after analysing George’s effort, he did the last 3mins of this effort downhill where he had to freewheel for traffic, horses, and corners. 20mins 349avg and 352np. On a full 20min climb, that goal was also being smashed.

Overall, really happy with what George has achieved over these few months working together and can’t wait to see what progression he can make over the coming months.

Most importantly, George is now loving his riding again and wanting to train more.

Consumer Wearable Devices (CWD). We’ve all seen the likes of MVDP wearing a Whoop band, but are wearable devices such as Whoop, smart watches, and smart rings as good as people say? Keep reading to get an insight into their uses but also some drawbacks…

Tracking metrics such as constant heart rate monitoring, heart rate variability (HRV), and your sleep stages are some of the most useful things CWDs provide.

Recovery Insights - HRV is the time between heart beats measured in milliseconds (ms) and varies from person to person. This is why these CWDs take time to adjust to your personal readings. HRV helps indicate your body’s recovery levels and how ready your heart is for strenuous exercise.

Illness Indication - Once accustomed to your device, you will notice trends that can indicate an illness which provides a sign to back off training a little bit and not dig yourself into a hole forcing you to take weeks away from training.

Health Monitoring - As you become fitter, you will often see your resting heart rate slowly decrease. Wearing these devices as sleep trackers will gauge your resting heart rate without you having to do anything extra.

Track Patterns - Apps such as Whoop allow you to select whether you’ve consumed caffeine throughout the day, or worn blue-light blocking glasses before bed, etc. These patterns are logged and the app can then show you trends to help build the perfect routine.

HOWEVER, some athletes become a slave to their device and will not train if they, for example, did not have adequate sleep. Think of CWDs as dietary supplements, they’re not there to take over what you already do, but supplement your recovery and help you recover better so you can keep training hard.
