Lawrence, you sure did show up for this once in a lifetime experience during this year’s World Cup, and we had an absolute blast hosting all of the matches! Thank you everybody that popped in our pub whether you have been here for several World Cup tournaments, or this was your introduction to the sport as Lawrence became internationally recognized for our friendliness and hospitality as the host city for the Algerian National Team! A huge shoutout to the people and organizations in town that spent months preparing and hyping the world’s greatest tournament long before it started last month! Great job to @explorelawrence @lalgeriefikansascity @thegranada the Score Lawrence, and many many other countless people and businesses in Lawrence that made this a resounding success for our beautiful town!In the mean time we are exhausted and we are giving our fantastic staff a much deserved two days off so we will be closed today and Tuesday to regroup and get some rest! The World Cup Final takes place on Sunday afternoon with a historic matchup between the defending World Cup champions Argentina, and superbly talented Spain! This will be only the second time that these two countries, who are both very rich with football tradition, will have met in the World Cup. The other match took place way back in 1966! Spain, the current European Champions, and Argentina, also the current South American champions, are split even over their last 14 matches each winning six times and the tying twice. After a day off of matches the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup begin today at 3:00pm with Morocco and France vying for the first semifinal spot! Doors open at 2:00pm and we’ll have the @redlyonreserve open for extra seating to escape the heat in our nicely cooled tavern! Apologies for any inconveniences, but the Red Lyon will be closed on Wednesday, July 8th to give our staff a much needed day off after what has been an unprecedented month of footy action for this year’s World Cup!!! ⚽️⚽️With the Round of 16 matches wrapping up today, there are no matches scheduled for Wednesday as the tournament heads into the final stretch, beginning with the start of the quarterfinals on Thursday as France takes on Morocco at 3:00pm. Thank you for showing up and supporting the beautiful game of soccer! Rise and shine! We open at 10:30am this morning for the Round of 16 World Cup match between Argentina and Egypt that kicks off at 11:00am! Colombia and Switzerland to follow at 3:00pm! The winners of today’s matches will meet in Kansas City on July 11th in a historic quarterfinal match at Arrowhead!!!! by @redlyontavern

Two outstanding Round of 16 matches are taking place on this Monday to get the week started! We’ll swing the doors open at 1:00pm for the first match between Iberian rivals Spain and Portugal as these two countries that share a border will face each other in the World Cup for just the third time! Then of course today’s main event kicks off tonight at 7:00pm between USA and Belgium! The USMNT will try and make the quarterfinals for the third time ever (1930, 2002) as they try and keep the momentum after winning their group for just the third time in history as well (1930, 2010)! by @redlyontavern

Here is this weekend’s huge World Cup match schedule going into next week! Yes we are open for all matches including Saturday the Fourth of July at 11:30am!Friday is the last match day of the Round of 32, then on Saturday the Round of 16 begins and will conclude on Tuesday to set up the quarterfinals! On the night of the Algeria vs. Jordan match (June 22), ISS staff joined international students for the World Cup Street Party in downtown Lawrence. We kicked off the evening with a raffle drawing for a Lawrence World Cup scarf giveaway and then joined the entertainment on Mass Street. A special thanks and big shoutout to the ( @redlyontavern )for going above and beyond to welcome the Algerian community and other fans. They provided Algerian beverages and halal food, creating a warm and welcoming space for everyone to come together and celebrate. It was a beautiful reminder of how culture and community bring people together. Lawrence really showed its welcoming spirit, and we’re grateful to have been part of it. A big thank you to all of our international students who joined us! Your participation made the event even more meaningful and memorable. It was a great opportunity not only to enjoy an exciting match, but also to experience Algerian culture firsthand like the amazing music, energetic & beautiful dancing, generous hospitality, and the genuine warmth with which community members welcomed everyone.
