WHAT IS THE MAHJONG OPEN?

Okay, Red River Region — let’s talk about The Mahjong Open. 🏆🀄

This is NOT a traditional league where you have to commit to being at the same place at the same time every single week.

Instead, you register for the Red River Region and then play throughout the 8-week league.

You can:
🀄 Join available tables
🀄 Create your own table
🀄 Choose dates and times that work for you
🀄 Meet more local Mahjong players
🀄 Track your scores and standings

The Holiday League begins October 25, and I am SO excited to bring this to our area.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll explain exactly how it works.

Who’s ready to play more Mahjong? Find more information on The Mahjong Open website - link in my bio! 😊

YOUR SCHEDULE. YOUR TABLE.

“But I can’t commit to the same night every week.”

You don’t have to. 🙌

That’s one of the things I love about The Mahjong Open.

During the 8-week league, registered players can find an available table or create one that fits their schedule.

Morning player? Great.
Weeknight player? Great.
Weekend Mahjong person? Also great.
The goal is simple: make it easier to PLAY MORE MAHJONG.

The Red River Region begins October 25.

If your schedule has kept you from joining traditional leagues before, this format may be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

MAHJONG MONDAY 🀄️

Keep or pass? Let’s walk through a Charleston together (in a fun game format)!

This hand begins with strong 5s, but each new pass changes the possibilities. Watch how we pivot and finish the Charleston with 10 of the 14 tiles needed for our hand!

The lesson: Stay flexible, reassess after every pass, and let the tiles guide your direction.

Did your tile passes match ours? Share it in the comments, and tune in next week for more of this Mahjong Monday series!

MAHJONG MONDAY 🀄

Let's talk Charleston! Today, I'll walk you through the basic pieces to consider when you Charleston next.

One of the biggest things beginners say is, "I don't even know what to pass?" And the answer is not “just get rid of random stuff.”

A better way to think about it is:

✨ KEEP tiles that already work together
✨ MAYBE hold onto tiles that still have potential
✨ PASS the tiles doing the least for you
✨ Watch for flexible tiles that can work in more than one direction
✨ Notice whether your rack is leaning toward odds or evens

And most importantly:

During the Charleston, you usually do not need to choose your exact hand. You just need to start identifying the section that best fits your tiles.

That one mindset shift can make the whole game feel much less overwhelming.

Save this for your next game and tell me in the comments: What part of the Charleston still feels hardest to you? ⬇️
