Not all floor systems are built the same.

For the Oak & Ember project, we’re using Open Joist, an open-web floor framing system that offers flexibility for running mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems through the floor structure.

It’s one example of how the materials and systems chosen before construction can make a difference in how a home comes together. The details behind the build matter just as much as the finished product.

Before the finished spaces, the materials, and the final details, there’s the framing.

This is where the layout starts to come to life and the vision for Oak & Ember becomes something you can walk through and experience. It’s one of the many important stages that bring a custom home together.

A well-designed home is often defined by the details that serve both form and function.

At the Oak & Ember project, this guillotine-style window creates a unique connection between the interior and the landscape beyond the home. Bringing in natural light, views, and a sense of openness while adding a distinctive architectural element to the space.

Intentional design means thinking beyond what looks good today and considering how each detail will shape the way a home is experienced for years to come.

Oak and Ember is underway for the 2027 Parade of Homes.

There is so much that goes into a home before the finished spaces ever come together.

We’re looking forward to sharing more of the design and building process as this home comes together.

Follow along to see it take shape.

Something new is coming to Bear Lake.

We’re getting started on a new custom home overlooking Bear Lake in Fish Haven, Idaho.

This property gives us an incredible setting to work with, and the design will be shaped around making the most of it: the views, the landscape, and the way this home will be used for gathering and spending time together.

We’re still early in the process, with construction anticipated to begin in 2027, but I’m excited to start sharing more as the design develops and eventually moves from plans to reality.

Follow along as this home comes to life.

One floor plan. Three completely different homes.

One of the things I enjoy most about residential design is exploring different architectural directions before settling on the final vision. The floor plan stays the same, but changes to materials, proportions, and detailing can completely transform the character of a home.

Each of these concepts has its own personality and there isn't a right answer. The best design is the one that reflects the people who will live there.

Which one would you build?

Every exceptional home begins long before the foundation is poured. It starts with thoughtful planning, intentional design, and hundreds of decisions made with purpose.

As construction begins on Oak & Ember, it's exciting to watch months of ideas, collaboration, and craftsmanship begin to take physical shape.

A truly great home isn't defined by one feature or one material. It's the result of intentional design paired with quality craftsmanship, working together from the very beginning.

Been working on something new…

Every custom home starts as a series of ideas, sketches, and decisions. Slowly those ideas begin to take shape - first in plans, then in the model, and eventually in the real world.

Excited about this one. More to come.

👉 Follow along to see how it develops.

Exterior is painted!
I love when the architecture starts to take shape and the materials begin working together in real light and real space.

There’s something special about seeing design move from the screen into the physical world. Every detail, every line, every proportion starts to show its intention.

👉 What do you think of the exterior color so far?

Happy Halloween! 🎃🦇
Every now and then it’s good to draw something just for fun. No clients, no deadlines, just design for the sake of creativity.

This sketch is my take on the Bates Motel house from Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 horror classic, Psycho. It’s not about perfection, it’s about observation, storytelling, and keeping the hand sharp.

👉 Design is all about the details — which part of this sketch is your favorite?
