Another #denimmend This one for Kenny in #roundtop who handed me these a year ago after seeing mine. These were quite a wrestling act getting them in the machine! Worked up quite a sweat actually. 😂 I’ll hand these off next week and in the meantime, I’ve got another pair waiting on deck. Look how plain they look before stitching. (Last pic)

Marketing and advertising agencies spend billions of dollars to make us click the buy now button.

They try to sell us a feeling. Inclusion. Friendship. Belonging. Peace. Love. Comfort. Protection.

How many of us have clicked on ads for things we didn’t know existed yesterday?

They are studying us all now more than ever. Can we commit to not buying new? Or at least commit to waiting a week before buying an item they put in front of us? (Hopefully by then you’ll realize you don’t need or want it)

I’m all about #buynothingnew but I’m even more so about everyone knowing we are being played.

Talk to your kids about advertising.

Know thyself and know what you ACTUALLY need and want.

And read @luchekowsky ‘s book Don’t Buy What I’m Selling. She knows the world of marketing from the inside out and she’s here to tell us not to fall victim to the machine. by @reducereuseremake

Who wore it best?

Weaving on these chairs is zero risk. It’s a broken chair headed for the landfill woven with tshirts from the free bin at @hearteningaustin

One woven by my daughter, so neatly done!

One by me in no particular order. I call it chaos weaving. Is that a thing? Dod I make it up?

Both super soft and comfy.

Both upcycling and saving things from the landfill.

Think of this next time you see chairs in someone’s trash. Especially outdoor chairs where the nylon seat has deteriorated in the sun. by @reducereuseremake

Beloved grocery bag mended for a family member. He has had this bag for over a decade. I’ve mended it before for tiny holes here and there.

Now it’s remade. Strengthened. Ready for a decade or two more of service.

I could do this kind of stitching all day!! It’s like scribbling with thread, or coloring with a sewing machine.

It’s really like weaving a new fabric all together.
And the patches of cloth are from a dress I remade. Perhaps we’ll go to the store together sometime and we can match.

I’ll got these jeans at a family clothes swap probably 25 years ago from my niece who bought them in college.

Since then they have been cut and patched and stitched and ripped and stitched again and again.

Some of the first stitches were hand stitched sashiko style.

Then I switched to machine mending. And I mended on an as needed basis.

I don’t wear these anymore. And I don’t want to carry something with me that I don’t use.

Could I sell them?
Who would buy them?
What would you do with these old pants?
