My tricks for wavey chest rolls 👀

For a smooth, controlled chest roll, your weight should stay forward over your hands as you lift your chest and open through the shoulders. If your weight shifts back too early, you’ll simply collapse rather than creating a fluid roll.

Here are my top cues:

✨ Keep your weight travelling forward, not backwards.
✨ Lift your chest before you roll don’t dive straight to the floor.
✨ Keep your chin slightly lifted so your chest leads the movement.
✨ Open through your shoulders to create space.
✨ Think chest → ribs → stomach → hips to create one continuous wave.

A beautiful chest roll isn’t just about flexibility it’s about weight placement, timing and control.

How much time do you spend on conditioning?

I’ll also ask you this… do the kids in your class know WHY it’s so important?

Rule number 1: it’s injury prevention.

Rule number 2: it’s enhancing the muscles needed for success.

Rule number 3: nothing worth achieving was ever easy, if you create an environment where they understand the WHY. They WANT to do it, they know it works. 💪🏻

4 weeks of hard work from this little lady to create a smooooooth like butter walkover.

Consistency is the KEY 🔑 same drills, same foundations and she is now absolutely FLYING confidently backwards.

Just because they have the skill it’s so important to keep working the drills. It keeps building their knowledge and foundations. Think of it like building a tower. Without the bottom blocks the whole thing would fall.

Everyone wants to learn a side aerial…
but the first drill I teach doesn’t even leave the floor.

The key?
A fast back kick with your nose driving towards your knee.

Why?
It encourages the hips to travel up, rather than sideways.
It teaches the take-off leg to drive powerfully into the floor.
It creates the lift you need before worrying about rotation.

Too many athletes focus on getting over, when they should be thinking about getting up first.

We are cooked and ready 🔥

It has been 12 weeks of pure hard work from everyone at HDS. Show term is always my favourite time of the year as a teacher, when these wonderful humans bring my ideas to life.

The biggest shout out to you all from my little Buzzy Minis to my Talented Seniors. As always I believe in you! And everyone has a part to play as an Acro Dancer. Look after each other out there! 🫶

Show week lets be havin’ yaaaah 💚

Ready to cause some serious CHAOS 😜

I’m so proud of this little lot - safe to say they have LOVED this routine from day one and what’s better than a little bit of chaos?!

Can’t wait to see it on the big stage next week💛

Limber isn’t all about getting to bridge as quick as you can, it’s a transitional skill. Teach it right from the start and you’ll be onto handsprings in no time.

Three of the most common corrections I make are:

➡️ Pushing the hips forward instead of staying stacked
➡️ Keeping the arms in line with the ears
➡️ Opening through the shoulders to create space for the movement

These small adjustments can completely change how the skill feels and make it much easier to connect smoothly and successfully.

Remember, it’s not always about working harder—sometimes it’s about getting your foundations right the first time.

Working that Acro float🫧

Making it look effortless when you’re work your socks off is HARD. This is why I push combination work on my senior dancers.

What’s your favourite combo?
