Can it get more Canadian than this? The crew really enjoyed having some maple flavour aboard the Integrity spacecraft!

The view from inside Integrity as recovery forces pop open the hatch…watching the helicopter pass over their shoulders and hearing all the joy, it was as good as it gets.

Sleep in space. It’s the best.

I claimed an “upside down” vertical spot in the tallest part of the capsule, as the only one who fit. Why hang like a bat? For one, because it feels no different than any other direction! For the other reason, read on…

Did you know that air doesn’t naturally circulate in space? That’s because there’s no convection or other density-driven gas movement without gravity. So, space modules have well-designed ventilation to circulate carbon dioxide into the scrubbing system and provide fresh air to breathe.

The top docking hatch area of our capsule was analyzed to have not enough active ventilation to be safe to sleep in, so I had to be upside down and have my head near the floor of the main cabin. It definitely was a bit confusing when I first woke up!

I also learned that making a demo video in a cozy spaceship is a team effort!

A thank you, in their own words 🫶

The Artemis II crew wanted to share their thanks to everyone who followed along during their journey, and share a reminder that there’s still more human exploration—and Artemis content—coming.

Authenticity has been hard fought for me. So I’m not sure why I even tried to make a video in what I thought had to be the voice of a social media influencer. Thankfully, that ended quickly. But I am passionate about sharing the benefits of human spaceflight and space science. So, I did try again to make this video showing how we live in Orion, but in my own voice. As I keep finding, that is always the better way.

(Those videos coming soon. Ish.)

Earthshine.

Artemis II astronaut Christina Koch captured this video of Earth outside the windows of the Orion spacecraft during the second day of the mission. Orion was roughly 33,800 miles (54,400 km) away from Earth when @Astro_Christina took this video.

What really happened on Pink Pony Club morning.

🎧 Sound on.

Wake up songs are a tradition at NASA that we were excited to carry on. Most of our song ideas came from our families. A couple crew’s daughters, nieces and nephews were behind this one. Unanimously, things that made us feel connected to our loved ones were the best part of our mission.

Pink Pony Club was sang onboard (poorly, in my case!) the rest of this day. Especially the chorus.

Guess I’ll be waiting a minute to surf again.

When people live in microgravity, the systems in our body that have evolved to tell our brains how we’re moving, the vestibular organs, don’t work correctly. Our brains learn to ignore those signals and so when we first get back to gravity, we are heavily reliant on our eyes to orient ourselves visually. A tandem walk with eyes closed can be quite the challenge! Learning about this can help inform how we treat vertigo, concussions and other neuro-vestibular conditions on Earth.

Luckily we’re already adapting back to gravity at 7 days post-splashdown!
