This month I’m swapping out the tablecloth for moss, and creating a winter forest right on my dining table 🍄 Episode seven of 2026 is here, and this month’s theme is The Fox’s Table, inspired by an English winter forest. The tablescape is layered, moody, and full of forest life, with custom mushroom embroidered napkins, a fox jug for the centrepiece, forest animal plates, squirrel napkin rings and leaf canapé dishes. A properly set table always looks like a lot more effort than it actually is, and this is the tablescape formula I use every time 🐟 For a long lunch at home, I start with the placemat and build up from there. Dinner plate, salad plate, bread plate with a butter knife, cutlery in order of use, napkin on the left, water glass and wine glass with a coaster on the right, and salt and pepper in the middle. The only thing that changes with the occasion is the colour palette. For a long lunch tablescape I lean into lighter, playful colours like yellows and soft blues that make the whole afternoon feel more relaxed. Next week Part 2 lands with the formula for a formal dinner tablescape, which is a completely different mood. Which piece do you always forget from a place setting?

I don’t need any more napkin rings, and yet every time I walk into a @westelmaus store I leave with a new set of tablescape ideas and a bag full of gorgeous pieces that I definitely didn’t go in for 🙈 AD Today it was a mix of marble and multi stone napkin rings, sardine plates and yellow napkins for a Euro summer table I have planned, stoneware pinch bowls in the shape of a leaf, the cutest squirrel napkin rings and a statement leaf design candelabra for Saturday’s dinner party, and a stack of orange twist taper candles because they caught my eye and I have not stopped thinking about them since. I finally built my own tablescape version, and pink was the missing piece 🌸 Chrome and marble on their own can feel a bit cold. Paired with pink, this chrome and marble tablescape turns into the softest, most romantic winter dinner table. After sorting my entire napkin collection this week, I could probably write a shopping guide from memory. If you’re looking to start your collection, these are the places that I would start with. @amazonaustralia and @kmartaus are always my first stop for bulk buying napkins because you can build out a full dinner party set without spending a fortune. @tabl.escaped is where I go when I want a complete themed tablescape, from placemats to napkins to styling props. For classic linen designs that work with any table setting, @sametimetomorrow.home and @bed.threads have never let me down. @threadandli is the answer for custom napkins, and @ritualhome___ and @anthropologiehome are where I go for the unique designs no one else at the table will have. You know that trip to Paris you keep meaning to book? I did the next best thing back in June, and it turned into one of my favourite dinners of the year. It was just two couples, a white tablecloth straight out of a Parisian bistro, every empty wine bottle I own lined up behind the table, and a menu of steak tartare, French onion soup, steak bavette, and cheese that we finished around midnight. The trick with any themed dinner party at home is that the tablescape carries the theme, not the food. A crisp cloth, low candlelight, and a wall of wine bottles behind you are all you need to signal French bistro before your guests have even sat down. Everything on the menu can then be as easy or as ambitious as you want, because the room has already done the storytelling for you. On Bastille Day it felt right to bring the whole night back, because if you have been meaning to throw a themed dinner and keep putting it off, this is the format to steal. You know that first sunny day after a week of rain in Sydney when nobody wants to spend it inside alone 🌞 This was Saturday afternoon and, because the sun had finally shown up, we started outside on our Malibu lounge with a spread of snacks and the last of the afternoon light. Once the sun dropped and the wind picked up we moved indoors for the main meal, which is my favourite way to host on a day like this. Two phase hosting stretches an afternoon out for hours, because everyone gets a quiet reset when the setting changes, and by the time you sit down at the table it feels like you have already had a whole afternoon together. The Malibu lounge and the Bora Bora daybed, from @outdoor_elegance, both earn their space on a terrace all year long, plus, they are both part of their EOFY sale that ends this weekend. A colourful Moroccan tablescape and every single piece is an Amazon tablescape find 🍊 I build every tablescape in four stages: 1. The Lineup. This is where I pull everything out and see what I’m working with. 2. The Centrepiece. For this tablescape it’s a red tagine surrounded by fresh oranges, grapefruit and limes because fruit always works harder than flowers. 3. The Final Touches. This could be jewel tone glassware, the patterned napkins, scattered tea lights or the cutlery. 4. And then you step back and see the whole tablescape together for the first time. The trick with a colourful table setting at home is committing fully. Mix the purples with the reds and the oranges with the greens, because matching is for restaurants, and clashing on purpose is for dinner parties. There is nothing quite like a colourful Moroccan tablescape to shake up your winter hosting routine 🍊 Prime Day is running until Monday 13 July and everything on this tablescape is from Amazon. A red tagine as the anchor, a gold mosaic hurricane vase catching the afternoon light, textured glassware in four different colours, plates in four different colours, gold cutlery, patterned napkins, a simple tablecloth as the base, yellow tapers in glass candlesticks, and a fruit-forward centrepiece of mandarins, halved blood orange, and a green pepper for an extra pop of colour. Here is the rule I follow every time I build a fruit-forward tablescape. The fruit has to do two things at once, echo some pieces on the table and contrast against others. The mandarins and blood orange echo the orange plate, the tapered candles, and the pink tea lights, while the same fruit contrasts against the black tagine base and pulls the eye straight to the centre of the table. That balance of echo and contrast is what pulls a tablescape together.
