Drawing has always been a part of my life - something I’ve just always been able to do. Growing up it was a bit of a hidden talent but I ended up making it my job. I studied architecture and design in college and whether its in a corporate setting or in a tattoo shop I’ve spent most of my days drawing.

Reasons I like to draw in nature:

1) being an artist, designer, creative, etc. means you’re turning your passion into a career. Commodifying your passion tends to take the fun out of it. Getting outside allows a change of scenery and a more enjoyable atmosphere than behind a desk.

2) Distractions. Getting outside actually helps keep me on task. the constant buzz of a studio isn’t in the background.

3) Nature can inspire my work, I’ll take a photo of a cool branch or a flower I see and try to incorporate it into my drawing.

3) Health. Being in a shop, studio, or indoors for too long isn’t good for vitamin d reserves babe!

4) Interacting with others and networking. A lot of people come up and ask what I’m working on or what I’m doing. This gives me a chance to promote myself to potential clients and make new friends :)

5) Mental clarity. My work is better when I’m in a clear headspace and being in nature makes me feel calm, helps me produce higher quality work.

While the weather is still nice this fall, take the time to do something creative outside!
