Feeling GRATEFUL! 🥲 Yesterday’s screening of Audre Lorde’s bio-pic + the open mic went SOOO well. It was just a really beautiful, grounded afternoon with good people and solid energy. Huge shoutout to everyone who helped us hold it down:

September was full of arts in action! Attending performances, exhibitions, festivals and more is fun and it’s essential to my work as an arts administrator and advocate. Showing up keeps me connected, grounded, and inspired while celebrating the creativity that fuels Greater Cleveland. Here are a few highlights:

✨ City of Cleveland Transformative Arts Fund culminating projects by @wongface , @9413sophiaave , @all.our_babies , @blackbraingroup , and @forartssakecle . I served on the TAF committee on behalf of @assemblycle , which helped advocate for this $3M ARPA-funded public art initiative.

✨ @anisfieldwolf 90th Anniversary. This coveted Cleveland-based award has honored writers confronting racism since 1935. Past awardees include Langston Hughes, Isabel Wilkerson, Henry Louis Gates, and Elizabeth Alexander to name a few. @iamkortney shined in her first year as program director. The literary crawl was epic and the ceremony was beautiful.

✨ Cleveland Book Fest united libraries and literary orgs for talks, workshops, and panels. Next year’s fest will culminate a yearlong, statewide tribute to literary giant Toni Morrison.

✨ @laurenmpearce : Wake Me Where I Lay exhibition at Framed Gallery—breathtaking work, on view through Nov. 22.

✨ @bendotferrari “The Riff Mechanics School for the Rifted” an immersive music experience at Loiter East Cleveland.

✨ @gcuffcleveland opening night at historic Karamu House—the nation’s oldest Black producing theater.

✨ @cptcle Pandemonium delivered dozens of unforgettable performances across genres.

✨ @artislife_28 closing reception as @universitycircle .’s inaugural artist-in-residence—a model for other neighborhoods to follow.

✨ @cleinstituteart $13M Interactive Media Lab ribbon cutting—a hub for VR, AR, film, game design, and immersive storytelling.

✨ Assembly for the Arts’ Public Officials Breakfast recognized Senator Kent Smith and Rep. Jamie Callender for bipartisan arts leadership.

✨ @bikeyourneighborhoodcle season finale. I’m grateful to lead rides that blend biking, public art & community.

✨My mom’s birthday. My lifelong love for the arts begins with her and all that my family poured into me.

There’s something about a community bike ride that brings people together in the best way.

Being an ally means more than flying a flag. It’s about showing up, standing together, and celebrating community in action.

Boston & Martha’s Vineyard. August 2024.

Sightseeing by bike in my former city of Boston capped off by a few days on Martha’s Vineyard.

Stops included: Boston Commons (site of Hank Willis Thomas’ sculpture of Martin & Coretta, “Embrace”), Nubian Square & Market, Boston University (MLK’s alma mater), Cambridge (Harvard University, MIT), my old apartment, Malcolm X’s house, Malcolm X Park, allll the emerald necklace parks (Franklin Park, Arnold Arboretum, Jamaica Pond, Olmsted Park, The Riverway, Back Bay Fens, Boston Common).

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to Cleveland Public Theatre’s annual gala (Pandemonium), and last night didn’t disappoint! If you haven’t been before, I highly recommend it! It’s a come as you feel gala experience with delicious food catered from neighborhood restaurants. The centerpiece is celebrating CPT’s tremendous work over the year with performances from the many artists and creatives they collaborate with. They transform their campus into a theatrical wonderland. Here’s a recap in 20 seconds.
