Before GucciGhost became a globally recognised cultural figure, there was Trevor Andrew. Olympian. Musician. Skate culture outsider. Artist. Trevor’s journey has never followed a conventional path, which is exactly what makes his work so compelling. From competing at the Winter Olympics to creating one of the most recognisable visual identities to emerge from street culture and fashion in the last decade, his practice has always existed between worlds. What began as a DIY Halloween costume in downtown New York eventually evolved into GucciGhost, a project that challenged ideas around luxury, branding, authorship and contemporary culture. Rather than rejecting the fashion system from the outside, Trevor forced a dialogue with it, ultimately leading to an unprecedented collaboration with Gucci itself. A few years ago, D’Stassi Art presented Trevor’s UK debut exhibition, Bang Bang, introducing audiences to the first major evolution of his Cowboy series. These works reimagined classic Americana and the mythology of the American West through Trevor’s own visual language, with fragments of the GucciGhost iconography subtly embedded throughout the paintings, from boots and hats to symbols and markings hidden within the compositions. What continues to excite us most is that Trevor’s fine art journey still feels like it is only beginning. Beneath the cultural recognition and global collaborations is an incredibly instinctive and technically gifted artist whose potential within the contemporary art world is still unfolding.
