Here is another clip from our recent event "Status For All! Towards a Borderless Future of Internationalist Solidarity."

In this clip The Gates of the Sea author Luna Vives argues that the meaning of the demand "status for all," must mean more than simply the regularization of migrants. For it to be a meaningful demand it must demand open borders and an end to the international border regime.

The holidays are fraught for many (understatement!), but books are always a reliable bright spot. ✨ If you’re giving gifts this year, why not offer a portal into deeper empathy, sharper critical thinking, and bolder political action? 🔥

They also give the recipient an excellent excuse to sneak away for some alone time in and around family chaos. We, your favourite hard-hitting Canadian publishers (cough*troublemakers*cough), have got you covered.

Here’s what we’re wrapping up this year…🎀

🌱 Bebías Into Ǫhndaa Ke: Queer Indigenous Knowledge for Land and Community
Edited by Sydney Rae Krill, Kleo P. Skavinski @arpbooks

🎮 Of Floating Isles: On Growing Pains and Video Games
By Kawika Guillermo @arsenalpulp

✊ Partisans: A Graphic History of Anti-Fascist Resistance
Edited by Raymond Tyler and Paul Buhle @btlbooks

🌍 He Who Would Walk the Earth
By Griffin Bjerke-Clarke @fernpub

🌊 Mouth Full of Salt
By Reem Gaafar @invisibooks

🌺 Tamil Terrains: poems. translations. reflections
Edited by Nedra Rodrigo & Geetha Sukumaran @tracepress00

All holiday spirit here is ironic… mostly. 👀 The books in this reel are available through the selected publishers’ websites or your favourite local indie bookstore. We recommend @massybooks, @anotherstorybookshop, @mcnallyrobinson, and @maktaba.bookshop.

As editor and contributor to this collection I am eternally grateful for these two ideas and the deadly aunties who uttered them, which have been the bedrock and foundation of this text. The first idea was articulated by Holly Mititquq Nordlum @hollywouldif_shecould, an Inupiaq ancestral skin marker, at the Traditional Tattoo Festival in Kohala, Hawai’i. Holly said, “For me lately, I’ve found that I want to know about us, from us.” For me, Holly’s words share that the time has come for Indigenous voices to articulate Indigenous perspectives on our lives, customs, beliefs, cultures, and past and present practices. Māori scholar Linda Tuhiwai Smith , in her foundational book Decolonizing Methodologies Research and Indigenous Peoples, stated it this way, “Indigenous communities have struggled since colonization to be able to exercise what is viewed as a fundamental right, that is to represent ourselves.’

Contributors to this collection include: Missy Dunn-Mahan @missymahanart, Julia Mageʼau Gray @melanesianmarks, Donita Vatuinaruku Hulme, Dion Kaszas, Yasbelle Kerkow @yazzkailomai, Terje Koloamatangi @terje_k, Mel Lefebvre @theoriginalmel, Nolan Malbeuf @malbeuf, Jerrid Lee Miller @jerridleemiller, Jacqueline Merritt @qwendetlig, Sheri Osden Nault @so_nault, Julie Paama-Pengelly @julesartistmoko, Natalia Roxas @nataliarxs, Nathalie Standingcloud @nattatt8, Gordon Sparks @gordonsparkstattoos, Anne Spice @annespicetattoo, Dulcie Stewart, Nakkita Trimble @nakkitatrimble, and Nahaan @chilkat_tattoo. Please tag those I missed, sorry couldn’t find your handle.

Big shout out to Cody Lucich for the use of this epic photo captured of Kanahus Freedom Manual @kanahus.tattoos. And to Kanahus for allowing the use of this epic photo of you for the cover.
