Opportunity Alert! 🚨📢 We’re excited to announce that our ✨Residency Program is back✨ and accepting applications! The 8-month Residency Program, which enters its 7th cycle this year, will run from October 2026 through May 2027. 🥁🎨🖼️ WHO’S IT FOR?  🔸LA-based artists 🔸Emerging artists 🔸Black and trans artists are highly encouraged to apply WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE RESIDENCY? 🔸A $2,000 artist stipend 🔸A $1,000 stipend for project costs 🔸Access to the Level Ground Collective for support, community, studio visits, etc.  🔸Regular gatherings with fellow cohort members & mentorship catered to individual needs 🔸Assistance in planning and executing a solo show at the end of the residency 🔸Photo and video documentation of the artist’s work

Butler’s Dawn into an immersive experience of gameplay, worldbuilding, and imagining better futures. ➡️In the game, players are guided through a series of questions and scenarios about how a society might organize itself. Together, you will make decisions about shared resources, community rituals, responses to harm, and systems of care. Along the way, you will be invited to reflect, discuss, and create through simple writing, drawing, movement, or storytelling prompts.⁠ If you missed out on our sold out Octavia’s Archive event, this is a great way to tap into our Social Practice Labs Module 2 workshops based on “Dawn” by Octavia E. Thursdays in April! Join @levelground.co Social Practice Labs in a special book club reading “Dawn” by Octavia Butler. Facilitated by Dr. Tamisha A. Tyler. In the aftermath of nuclear war, Lilith Lyapo finds herself awake on an alien ship. She has been tasked with leading a group of humans to repopulate a new Earth, one healed by their alien captors, the Oankali. There is only one catch: humans must undergo a genetic merger with the Oankali to create a new species. In this five-week, slow, communal reading of Octavia E. Butler’s Dawn, we confront human survival in the face of potential extinction (or evolution). Exploring themes of consent, identity, and alien sex, Dawn offers us a new perspective on navigating first contact novels in a post-apocalyptic setting. 📕 Part class, part book club, each session features chapter-by-chapter questions, playlists, discussion resources, and a ritual. Together, participants engage the text, connect it to larger themes and current events, and learn about Butler’s process in writing this novel. The weekly reading schedule and further details will be sent after you register. 📆Thursday evenings in April at 6:30pm. 📣 📚 Registration is open for Level Ground’s latest Social Practice Labs – and we are stepping into a Season of Awakening! 🌅 Octavia Butler scholar Dr. Tamisha A. Tyler (@tamisha_tyler) will be guiding us through a measured, intentional and communal reading of Butler’s “Dawn,” a stunning work of science fiction that depicts a world where humanity has the option of merging genetically with the Oankali race to ensure the joint future of both species. For five Thursday evenings in April at The Philosophical Research Society in Los Feliz (@philosophical_research_society), we will discuss the book and explore its themes and connections to current times and events. As with our previous study of “Parable of the Sower,” each session will feature chapter-by-chapter questions 🙋🏾‍♀️, playlists 🎧, discussion resources 🗣️, and a ritual 🌀. Do you allow yourself to shed and be reborn, or do you run away from it all? 🥀 This is the question Kei Austin explores in THE GARDEN, THE GRAVE   — a surreal, body-driven story following LOVE and HATE. After an unexpected breakup, a queer couple’s complicated relationship slowly deteriorates their bodies. LOVE descends into a fractured reality where grief takes form and memories haunt.  Kei Austin @sadelasoul a seasoned professional dancer and choreographer, uses dance to tell a vulnerable story of love, loss, memory and grief. 🥀 The project is currently raising production funds on Seed&Spark and you can help by making a pledge today (link in bio).
