Ladies, how many times have you smiled through something that made you want to scream? @kalkikanmani put words to something so many women know intimately: sometimes silence isn’t weakness. Sometimes it’s strategy.

We love telling women to “just speak up.” But things are much more nuanced than that. What if speaking up could cost you the opportunity? The paycheck? The room you’re trying so hard to earn a seat in? These are the mental gymnastics all women go through and IT. IS. EXHAUSTING.

In this latest episode of @shamelesswithlillysingh, we talk about the tradeoffs and the impossible standards women are still expected to meet.

But that’s why conversations like this matter. Because when women share the calculations we’ve all been making in silence, they stop feeling so lonely. And that’s where sisterhood begins 💪🏽

This episode of Shame Less With Lilly Singh is presented by my charity, Unicorn Island Fund.

Hands down the most honest speech I’ve ever delivered in my career. And I’ll continue the honesty here 👇🏽

This has been one of the hardest years of my career as a creative.

There have been so many moments where I’ve questioned whether I belong. Whether my voice matters. Whether the stories I want to tell are “commercial” enough. Whether I should make myself smaller, safer, more familiar. Entertaining is 10% of my job, the mental gymnastics make up 90%.

I’ve gotten so used to doing what I call a “whitewash pass” on my scripts before sending them out. I’ll remove Punjabi or Hindi words. I’ll change names. I’ll soften cultural references. I’ll catch myself wondering if a character needs to be South Asian at all. Not because I want to tell a different story, but because it feels like it might be the only way to get someone to read it. And I am waiting for someone to prove me wrong… any day now.

That’s a heartbreaking realization to have as a writer. Not to mention, as an actor, it’s so sad that my friends and I literally have conversations like, “okay if they already have that supporting role as a person of colour, then I probably don’t have a chance because they won’t have two POCs, right?”

I know I’m not the only creative who feels exhausted right now. It can feel like every “no” is trying to convince you that your perspective is too specific, too different, or too risky.

Please don’t confuse the limitations of a system with the limitations of your talent.

Your story is worthy.

Your voice is worthy.

And every time you choose to keep creating anyway, you’re making it a little easier for the person who comes after you.

And that’s what I’ll do. I’m going to keep pushing. It is so exhausting and mentally taxing… but I feel so strongly I must continue.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to audition for a role that is literally written as a white man in the script. Wish me luck!!! Fingers crossed lmao 😩

My memory is less “photographic” and more “Etch A Sketch.” Sorry for forgetting your name immediately after you said it. It will happen again 🤷🏽‍♀️😩 (cc: @nellyfurtado)

I fear we’ve been gaslit by the concept of time. 😂

I actually made this video for myself. Let me keep it 💯

At the beginning of 2026, I set a bunch of huge goals. Somewhere along the way, I accidentally attached a countdown clock to every single one of them. I wasn’t just chasing the goal. I was chasing the idea that if I didn’t accomplish it this year, somehow I would be too old. Or it’ll be too late. Or I’ll be “past my prime.”

This week I had what genuinely felt like a groundbreaking realization: If I don’t accomplish a goal this year… I can accomplish it next year.

I know. Revolutionary. 😅 But straight up, this thought didn’t even occur to me.

Instead of feeling excited about chasing my dreams, I’ve been making myself anxious because I believed there was an expiration date attached to all of them. Instead of the passionate hustle I love, I’ve been living in a state of fear.

Why have we accepted the idea that our careers, our bodies, our relationships, our skin, our dreams, and our lives all have this invisible countdown attached to them? Like respectfully, eff off.

I don’t want to live like that anymore.

I still have huge goals. I still want to work incredibly hard. But I refuse to believe my potential expires because another birthday or year passed.

If I book the role next year instead of this year, amazing.

If I sell the show later, great.

If I reach a goal five years from now instead of five months from now, who exactly decided that was a failure? I’M DONE BULLYING MYSELF.

I’m officially withdrawing from the imaginary race.

If you needed permission to do the same, this is it. ❤️

Love you sisters 🫂

Lowkey, I found my twin! @kritisanon is one of the most self-aware people I’ve ever sat across from. Not because she has all the answers, but because she’s willing to question the life she’s built while still living it.

On this episode of @shamelesswithlillysingh, Kriti opens up about success, people pleasing, speaking up and continuing to show up in the toughest of rooms.

Wait for it… 🎨💃🏽 Comment VIBES and I’ll DM you my personal Soca playlist ❤️

Few things make me as happy as soca music.

When you get yet another audition for a character described as “blonde hair, blue eyes,” at least there’s soca music.

When Nicole Kidman books the role over you for the 18th time, at least there’s soca music.

When work somehow turns into a 27-hour day, at least there’s soca music.

When your doctor refers you to yet another specialist, at least there’s soca music.

When someone doesn’t let you merge on the highway even though you’re literally such a nice person, at least there’s soca music.

When your nail chips five minutes after a fresh manicure, at least there’s soca music.

When the food delivery forgot all the side sauces, at least there’s soca music.

On my worst days, at least there’s soca music.

And on my best days, it somehow makes them even better.

Soca to the universe. ❤️

P.S. Had to cut this video short because after this point all behaviour had left the building. I was a little tipsy and a lot happy 😇

Maybe we’ve accidentally convinced men that caring is embarrassing.

Then @ishaankhatter told me he regularly calls his male friends just to check in, talk about life, and make sure they’re okay… and honestly, it felt refreshing.

We’ve taught men to carry everything quietly. To push through. To stay strong. But emotional honesty doesn’t make friendships weaker. It makes them deeper.

Maybe male vulnerability was never the opposite of strength. Maybe it was always a part of it.
