Just bro things... 🚽🦗

My bro @jwinden_macro and I were actually tracking down a very rare black and white longhorn beetle! We had to shoot it right here in the toilet just to keep it from flying away before we could get the shot. When you spot a subject like that, it doesn’t matter where you are—the grind for that perfect focus stack never stops!

What’s the strangest place you’ve ever stopped to shoot a macro photo? Let me know below! 👇

This was definitely one of the best experiences of my whole Ecuador trip 🥹🐦
Hand-feeding a hummingbird that weighs only around 4 grams felt unreal. At @alambi_reserve there were hummingbirds everywhere, flying around the feeders nonstop. It was the perfect place to just stand still, watch them up close, and take lots of photos of these tiny flying jewels ✨💚 Moments like this stay with me forever.

Urosticte benjamini, also known as the Purple-bibbed Whitetip, is a small hummingbird found in the cloud forests of Ecuador. It feeds mainly on nectar from flowers and also eats tiny insects for protein. Like many hummingbirds, it has an extremely fast metabolism and needs to feed very often to keep its energy up.

Everyone who follows me for a while knows that I really like to touch and carefully handle insects and other small creatures I find in the forest 🐞🐍🐸 As long as it’s something that can’t kill me, I’m usually curious enough to get a closer look 😅 Of course, I always handle them with care, never harm them, and return them exactly where I found them. And most importantly, in the rainforest I only touch animals that are approved by our guide, who knows which ones are safe and which are not. Safety first! 🌿💚

This one is really special to me ✨ It’s my 500th post here on Instagram and I can’t believe how far this journey has gone. For this reel I wanted to show you a little piece of Ecuador, the country that honestly stole my heart. Since I got back, there hasn’t been a single day where I didn’t think about that magical time in the rainforest.

Walking through the jungle with amazing people, discovering hidden beauty everywhere, was something I’ll never forget. At the same time, it makes me a bit emotional, because places like this are so in danger. The rainforest needs to be protected for the generations to come 🌎💚 Seeing how much of it is destroyed every single day truly breaks my heart.

I hope by sharing these moments and all the wonderful creatures I find, I can at least help a little bit to show how important it is to care for them 🦋🌿🐸

Big thanks to my friend @jwinden_macro for letting me use his stunning drone footage above Yarina Eco Lodge in the Amazon 🙏

@anskar.lenzen is right 🇪🇨❤️

I rescued this beautiful Hairy Scoliid Wasp (Scolia hirta) from the water and let it dry up on my hand. Yes they can sting but as long as you don't harm them, they don't harm you. It flew away just after I stopped filming.

Have a good start into the weekend and save some insects! 😁

Finally found the perfect way to carry two cameras without breaking my neck! 😍

When I saw @pbmacro using the Cotton Carrier harness with his 2-camera setup all over Ecuador, I was really impressed with how comfortable and practical it looked. As soon as we got back, I reached out to Cotton Carrier, and they kindly sent me the CCS G3 Grey Harness for 2 cameras. 😍

It’s such a game-changer for carrying both my cameras hands-free while out in the field. No neck pain, no gear swinging around, just comfort and quick access when I need it.

I’ve been using it a lot lately, and I’m honestly super happy with how well it’s built and how easy it is to use. Huge thanks to @cotton_carrier for the support! 🙏

I can’t believe it’s already been more than a year since I found this amazing longhorn beetle! Still one of my all-time favorite shots 🖤

Longhorn beetles (family Cerambycidae) are known for their super long antennae, sometimes even longer than their bodies! There are thousands of species, many with amazing patterns and colors. Some live in forests and help break down dead wood, playing an important part in the ecosystem. Others can be found in grasslands or even gardens. Their strong jaws and large size can make them look a bit intimidating, but most are completely harmless to humans.

This moment was so special for me – seeing my first snake in the wild! 🤩 A blunthead snake from the Ecuadorian jungle 🐍✨. Trying wide-angle shots for the first time made it even more exciting! I can’t wait to go back and discover more hidden jungle treasures like this one.

Blunthead snakes (genus Imantodes) are small, harmless, and non-venomous tree-dwelling snakes commonly found in the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, including Ecuador. They are most active at night (nocturnal) and can often be found hunting for small prey like lizards, frogs, or insects. These snakes are known for their incredibly slim, elongated bodies and wide, triangular heads, which makes them uniquely adapted for life in the trees.

Ever since I saw the first videos and reels of these huge Tailless Whip Scorpions here on Instagram, I knew I needed to see one in the wild! 😄 I just really wanted to put one on my face for a photo (yeah, I know 😂)
We were super lucky and found quite a few during our night walks, and this one here was one of the biggest we saw in Canandé Reserve! 🕷️

These arachnids belong to the order Amblypygi. They aren’t true scorpions and don’t have tails or venom. Despite their fearsome appearance, with long whip-like front legs and spiny pedipalps used for grabbing prey, they’re harmless to humans.
They rely on those long feeler legs to sense vibrations and navigate in total darkness, which is why they’re often found in caves or under logs during the day. At night, they come out to hunt small insects and other invertebrates. Heterophrynus species are among the largest in the group and are especially common in tropical rainforests like those in Ecuador.

Okay, this video might not be super sharp 📹🕷️— but it was just too cool not to share!
Look closely and you can actually see the inside of the eyes moving of this jumping spider 🤯
These eyes are cone-shaped and incredibly unique. You can even see how the spider moves them independently! I’m not 100% sure about the ID, but it might be a Lyssomanes species.

Lyssomanes is a genus of long-legged jumping spiders found mostly in Central and South America. What makes them stand out, besides their usually green, semi-transparent bodies, are their eyes. Two of their main eyes are cone-shaped and can move individually inside their heads, which gives them incredible depth perception and precise vision. These spiders often live on leaves and use their sharp eyesight to hunt small insects.
