This is not a political post per se, but I’ve been seeing a lot of talk surrounding the Saudi Arabian government and their investment/involvement in entertainment. This has come up a lot recently because of the Riyadh Comedy Festival, the purchase oh EA, and a number of combat sporting events, etc.

I will say this: just Because we live in America where EVERYTHING goes, doesn’t mean other parts of the world are backwards for maintaining their values. The ironic part is that if most countries governed by the religious values that they claim to carry, you would see a lot of similarities.

This isn’t to excuse the atrocities committed by the Saudi government, but we need to stop lumping Islamic rulings and values in with “crimes against humanity.”

Just because something doesn’t hit commercial success, it doesn’t make that thing bad. Plenty of albums, movies, tv shows, and video games miss being a hit with the masses due any number of factors:

Timing, being too advanced, crowded release calendar, etc. People equate sales with quality, but there are plenty of great experiences that haven’t gotten the shine for one reason or another.

These are some of the best video game consoles that didn’t sell a lot of units, but had plenty of great First-Party software. A different business decision here or there….and we’d be telling a whole different story.

Some highlights from today’s direct. I thought it was fine, but some things people were justifying to say it was amazing (release dates, ports, things we already knew about, etc.) kinda annoyed me lol.

Mario 40th Anniversary: First 20 min dedicated to announcing the new Super Mario Galaxy Movie (April 2026), Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 ($70 lol wtf), Mario Tennis Fever (looks super lit 🎾🔥), Yoshi and the mysterious Book, and a new multiplayer/more levels to Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Kirby Air Riders will be getting another Direct to show more info on the game. Also, amiibos on the way! (Hopefully not $40 each).

Pokémon Section: New Pokémon farm sim/minecraft/animal crossing game called Poketopia. Mega evolutions for the Kalos starters…..and DLC for Legends Z-A announced before the game even comes out lol (Pokemon Mega Dimensions).

Resident Evil: Requiem, Biohazard, and Village all dropping on Feb. 27th.

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined (Feb. 5th)

Hades 2 (Sep. 25th)

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment (Nov. 6th)

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (Dec. 4th)

DK: Bananza DLC (DK Island + Emerald Rush)

One more thing: Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

I give it a solid 7/10 personally. Expect the next few Directs to be full of port/release date announcements due to a lot of devs not getting dev kits.
