✨Somewhat✨ expensive things are actually worth it - Cosplayer edition!! Most of these are under $100 actually aside from most 3d printers and some sewing machines/sergers.

This is totally just MY opinion but here are my reasons why:

1. Canvas wig head (durable and long lasting, can handle pinning)
2. 3D printer (this doesn’t mean you should completely abandon foam smithing and fabrication but 3D printing things can be a game changer because you’re unlocking a new skill set within the hobby and can support other creators by buying their models. You also get a higher chance of your props looking cleaner)
3. Airbrush kit (just overall enhances the paint job on your props and can be used on wigs and fabrics too! It’s creates more depth and no visible paint strokes! )
4. Lace front wigs (only needed for certain characters, esp if they don’t have bangs but the hairline is simple.It just looks super natural and professional if you apply them correctly. )
5. Con air steamer (the $10-15 ones on Amazon ARE NOT IT!! They take forever to heat up. Get an actual nice one. $50-65 price range is good but the Conair extreme steam one is my favorite! It works fast, super adjustable and powerful! It makes steaming projects very quick and saves time and frustration).
6. Sewing machine/serger. (Knowing basic sewing will enhance your relationship with cosplay imo and you can only get so far with hand stitching. Opportunities to customize and grow your cosplay craftsmanship multiply by 1 million once you start sewing. Owning a serger unlocks a new level of professionalism in your sewing and opens more doors to work with fun costumes fabrics like spandex. Once you start using a serger, you’ll tell an immediate quality difference in the finished product)

Honorable mentions:
Worbla & thermoplastic ( it’s super easy and fun to work with. It makes props durable and is easily moldble, allowing you to do almost anything with it)

Even though cosplay is a year-round hobby for me, ever since I moved from the Midwest, I find that the cosplay community in the summer time is so vibrant and fun, especially with so many local events popping off!!
