Here’s the problem: the President made more stock trades last year than every member of Congress COMBINED. That’s why any serious ban on stock trading has to apply to both Congress and the White House, and today’s bill does not do that. I got rid of my individual stocks after coming to Congress to avoid any kind of conflicts of interest, and I’ll keep fighting for a bipartisan, effective stock trading ban that restores trust in our government.

Straight answers matter. Today, I pressed the President’s Science Advisor in a @ScienceDemocrats committee hearing for accountability after inconsistent testimony about whether officials at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy are involved in NSF grant decisions. The American people deserve transparency, not evasive answers. I’ll keep pushing back on the administration’s anti-science agenda.

My reaction to the President’s comments on Canada’s wildfires? We don’t solve a wildfire crisis by starting yet another trade war. We solve it by working with our neighbors, preparing our communities, and addressing the conditions, including climate change, that are making fires worse.

It was great meeting with Casey Cuney, a 2024 California Teacher of the Year who works at Valencia High School!  Casey is a great teacher, helping his students navigate the powerful technologies that are expanding every day.  He’s seen first hand how those technologies can improve student outcomes, and how they can also impede student learning. We’re lucky to have leaders like Casey helping us to navigate these challenging times.

You may not know this, but space is getting more crowded every year! With thousands more satellites headed to orbit, we need to make sure they can operate safely. During our @ScienceDemocrats hearing, I highlighted why improving space traffic coordination is so important. Preventing collisions protects our satellites, reduces dangerous debris, and helps ensure the United States remains the global leader in space.

Wildfires are no longer just a seasonal challenge. They’re a year-round threat to our communities, our economy, and our national security. At a panel with @CSIS, I talked about how natural disasters should be included in conversations about threats to the homeland. In California alone, wildfires can cause more than $100 billion in damage each year. We need to make sure our federal investments match the scale of the risk by strengthening prevention, improving preparedness, and protecting the communities on the front lines.

This weekend’s Fire Safety Day in Santa Clarita brought together firefighters, first responders, and our community to focus on what it takes to stay ready before disaster strikes. We talked about improving early wildfire detection through tools like FireGuard, strengthening local wildfire resilience projects in high-risk areas like Acton and Santa Clarita, and making sure families are able to recover faster after disaster strikes.

Republicans and Democrats came together to pass a bill that would bring down the cost of housing. The President called it a "big yawn" and refuses to sign it into law. Housing isn't a "big yawn" to the people I represent. Home prices are around $900,000 in Los Angeles County and the average first-time homebuyer is nearly 40 years old. We need to build more homes and bring down costs, which is exactly what the bill I helped pass would do. It's time to sign the 21st Century Road to Housing Act into law.
