This only took me a few months @emski_fos lol & I mistakenly changed the lyric bottle for gutter
😅
Such a fun song to learn and cover. It reminded me of the art of covering other people’s songs, you learn so much that way.
.
I also love the story behind the lyrics. Tracy Chapman said this song was inspired by moments she witnessed growing up with a single mother in Cleveland.
That really resonated with me. It took me a long time to get over having my own lyrics pulled apart and interpreted as if they were always literal or autobiographical. Sometimes lyrical inspiration is just as organic, it’s shaped by observation, imagination, and emotion, not just lived experience. I think I still have a little healing to do there 🌱 .
Anyway, I hope you enjoy my cover. And hopefully, in a year’s time, I’ll look back and hear how much I’ve grown ☺️
