I’ve been struggling to articulate how much of an impact RADA has had on me, and then yesterday I found an excerpt on my final page of my work journal that sums it up perfectly: “It feels like I’ve been dreaming for the past half year, and now I have to wake up. I’m going to miss the smell of the buildings, the quick sneaks outside for a bit of sun on a nice day, the feeling of sweating and working especially hard on a project and then going to the Marlborough to celebrate with your class mates, with your friends. The early mornings, the even later evenings. Feeling comfortable enough with your tutors to start joking around with them. Getting butterflies in your stomach when you introduce yourself to someone new at a cabaret or scratch night. Sharing snacks in between lessons. The moments where you take a step back and allow yourself to enjoy the work instead of focusing on ‘getting it right’. The way time seems to disappear when you’re completely lost in what you’re making. The random bursts of laughter that break up long rehearsals. Borrowing things you forget and knowing someone will always have what you need. The same seat you always drift back to, the same warm-up songs, the same post-class debriefs that somehow last longer than the class itself. Walking home tired but fulfilled. The shared understanding that no one else quite gets from the outside. All of it has equated to the most unforgettable adventure of my life. I’m so grateful. I’m going to miss how this place slowly became a second home without you even realising it.”
