What’s up technicians?
We’re going over a second Dutch kickboxing combo today following that first and third concept.

I come in with my double jab cross, he throws his left body kick to stop me, but I follow up my low kick, jab-cross, inside leg kick to the ankle, rear knee.

This combo is great because it follows the first and third concept and if you do it correctly, kicking to the ankle instead of the thigh or the calf, you kick your opponents leg out making it even easier to land a devastating knee. #Techniquetuesday #muaythai #dutchkickboxing

What’s up, technicians? Ready for another Dutch Kickboxing combo?

We’re continuing with that first and third combo concept from my last video for this week’s #TechniqueTuesday: I’ll throw my entry combo and when my opponent interrupts or counters it, I follow up with a second combination to maintain control and the judges favor.

This combo:
Enter with my double jab - cross.
He throws his jab at me, I slip the jab at the same time throwing a jab to the body, and follow up with an overhand, body shot, and low kick.

Can’t wait to share another combo next week!

Suggest your favorite combo in the comments! If it’s good, we’ll go through it in another video!

What is the 1st and 3rd combo strategy?

Throw your entry combo and when your opponent interrupts or counters it, you follow up with a second combination. This is a great technique in sparring to maintain control. And, in a fight, when you’re landing 3-4 techniques for every strike they throw, it becomes very difficult for judges to score the exchange in their favor, even if their shot lands harder.

Most people think defense is just “don’t get hit.”

But there are levels to it.

Today we’re looking at three ways to defend the jab:

👊 Block it
👊 Parry it
👊 Evade it

A block puts something between you and the strike. It works, but you still absorb the force.

A parry changes the path of the attack. Less impact, more opportunity to counter.

An evasion moves your body out of the way entirely while keeping you in position to attack.

The interesting part? The more effective the defense becomes, the more skill and timing it requires.

A block can happen anytime before impact.
A parry must happen as the strike is thrown.
An evasion requires precise timing, positioning, and awareness of what might come next.

Don’t just memorize techniques. Understand the categories behind them, and you’ll be able to defend far more than just a jab.

What’s your go-to jab defense?

Why point the gun when you can just throw the elbow?

We all know elbows are effective on their own but only if you can land them. Fakes and feints can help you do that.

This fake threatens a teep, or a foot jab and uses the Thai hop entry to get close enough to your opponent to land a straight elbow and finish out a combo.

Why it works:
The Thai hop simultaneously:
- Fakes the kick
- Bridges the gap between your kick range and elbow range
- Creates forward moment to smash your opponent with a linear technique, in this case, the straight elbow

My favorite part of being a Muay Thai/Kickboxing coach is seeing how much my students grow.

I’m incredibly thankful to be part of each student’s journey. Learning where they excel, and where they can improve, and understanding the mindset challenges they overcome along the way as they build confidence, technique, discipline, and toughness is one of the most rewarding experiences imaginable.

Over the past few months, I’ve been dialing in and putting a lot of energy into helping grow our Muay Thai and Kickboxing program at @graciecharlottesville. Between the new gym, a mat space specifically dedicated to Muay Thai, new heavy bags, and expanded class offerings, we’ve seen amazing progress and momentum. Now that things are really moving, I’m excited to get back to posting consistently and reconnecting with the incredible online community we’ve built together. More exciting things are coming soon.

On another note, none of this would be possible without all of your support. From Patreon sign-ups, to our Combat Corner partnership, to everyone supporting Technical Fury merch, thank you all so much. 🙏

A big shoutout to the Gracie Charlottesville students repping the tank tops and shirts in this video!

As always, check out the bio for our merch store and our Combat Corner discount code!

Why should you do a Scrimmage League event? (And why should you sign up for ours on June 20th!)

- Sharpen Your Weaknesses Safely: Scrimmage League events pressure test your skills against new opponents. So whether you’re working on your boxing skills, your footwork, slipping the jab or checking your low kick, you can get real time practice without getting hurt.

- Build Confidence: Fighting, even when you’ve trained for a while, can feel really scary. These events put you in a fight environment, but because it’s light contact, take off a lot of the pressure, letting you build physical confidence in your fight skills and strengthen your mindset.

- Train Multiple Rule Sets in one day: This is the only type of fight where you can compete in Kickboxing/Muay Thai, face an opponent in MMA, and even just practice your boxing skills and footwork during a Boxing Only match.

No matter the reason, we would love for you to join us on June 20th!

Compete in:
Kickboxing
Muay Thai
Boxing

Getting back to the basics wins fights.

In this series, we’re using a classic combo, Cross-Hook-Low Kick, to counter four different attacks.

You don’t always need something flashy, you need something that works. When your basics are sharp, you can solve almost any problem in front of you.

What’s your go-to counter when things get chaotic?
